DNC Moves Forward With Biden's Nomination Despite Concerns

 July 21, 2024
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is set to proceed with the nomination of President Joe Biden for the upcoming presidential election, despite some party members' growing calls for a new candidate.

Biden is expected to be formally named the party’s nominee during an early roll call vote between Aug. 1 and Aug. 7, even amid widespread concerns about his viability ahead of the November election, including from the likes of former President Barack Obama, as the New York Post reports.

On Friday, the DNC’s Rules Committee affirmed the plan for the roll call vote, solidifying President Biden's strong position with nearly 3,900 pledged delegates.

To win the nomination, a Democratic presidential candidate must secure a majority of pledged delegates in the first round of ballots, which is more than 1,900 delegates.

Early Roll Call Vote Affirmed by Rules Committee

This year, President Biden dominated the Democratic presidential primary due to the absence of a serious challenger. DNC co-chair Leah Daughtry mentioned that any challenger would need the verified support of hundreds of delegates, emphasizing the steep challenge any potential contender would face.

Jamie Harrison, the DNC's boss, remains a staunch supporter of the Biden-Harris ticket, reinforcing the committee's backing for Biden's candidacy. “Thanks to every single one of you, we will re-nominate President Biden and Vice President [Kamala] Harris,” Harrison said.

However, a growing number of Democratic party leaders have publicly urged Biden to withdraw from the race. Influential figures like Obama, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and New York Sen. Chuck Schumer have privately advised Biden to step down.

Despite these calls, President Biden has expressed frustration and remains determined to stay in the race.

A source close to Biden told NBC News, “Can we all just remember for a minute that these same people who are trying to push Joe Biden out are the same people who literally gave us all Donald Trump?”

Biden is currently recovering from his third bout with coronavirus at his beach house in Delaware. His health has been a topic of concern among his critics and supporters alike.

Despite his current health challenges, President Biden plans to resume his campaign activities next week, showing his commitment to continue his bid for re-election.

Biden's Health and Campaign Resumption

The early roll call vote between Aug. 1 and Aug. 7 is a crucial step in formalizing Biden's nomination. This move by the DNC demonstrates their confidence in Biden’s ability to lead the party in the upcoming election.

The support of nearly 3,900 pledged delegates highlights Biden's dominance within the party, despite the vocal concerns of some members. His ability to secure a majority in the first round of ballots seems likely given the current delegate count.

As the DNC moves forward with the nomination process, the party must address the internal concerns and unify behind their candidate to ensure a strong campaign against the opposition.

DNC's Confidence in Biden's Leadership

In conclusion, the Democratic National Committee is moving ahead with President Biden's nomination for the White House.

The formal roll call vote between Aug. 1 and Aug. 7 is expected to solidify his position as the party's nominee.

Despite some influential Democratic leaders urging him to step down, Biden remains resolute in his decision to run for re-election, bolstered by his significant delegate support and the backing of the DNC leadership.

His planned resumption of campaign activities next week further demonstrates his commitment to the race.
