Several key Democrats are notably absent from this week's national convention in Chicago.

Concerns are rising about their allegiance to the party's presidential nominee, Kamala Harris, as prominent figures skip the event, The Hill reported.

The Democratic National Convention, a pivotal event for the party, is currently taking place without some of its notable members. This includes Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown, who has chosen to campaign in Ohio rather than attend the convention despite having endorsed Harris.

Sherrod Brown Prioritizes Ohio Campaign Over Convention

According to his campaign spokesperson, Eliza Green, Senator Brown has been planning these campaign activities for months. Green emphasized Brown's commitment to Ohio, stating he looks forward to engaging with constituents across the state to discuss key issues.

Brown himself noted that he often opts out of conventions, sometimes attending only briefly. This year's decision aligns with his past tendencies to focus on direct voter interaction during election seasons.

John Fetterman Chooses Family Time Over Party Duties

Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman is also absent from the convention, opting to spend time with his family instead. "The convention is not about me," Fetterman said, highlighting the importance of family time over party functions during the summer break.

Fetterman has previously expressed political positions that vary from some party stances, notably his support for Israel, hinting at nuanced political alignments within the party ranks.

Other Senators Cite Various Commitments

Senator Martin Heinrich from New Mexico and Nevada Senator Jacky Rosen are among others who have cited various commitments as reasons for their non-attendance. Heinrich has expressed his support for the Harris-Walz ticket but stated that other commitments prevent him from attending.

Rosen has emphasized the importance of being in Nevada, focusing on her reelection campaign. "It's important that I'm home," Rosen remarked, underlining her commitment to her constituents over the convention.

Local Concerns Over National Party Events

Senator Jon Tester from Montana and Colorado Representative Yadira Caraveo have similarly chosen local engagements over the national convention. Tester is focusing on farming and local community interactions rather than endorsing Harris or participating in national party events.

Caraveo, targeted by Republicans in her reelection bid, is concentrating on local campaign efforts, which she deems more crucial than the convention.

Representatives Prioritize State Needs

Oregon Representative Val Hoyle and Maine Representative Jared Golden are also skipping the convention to attend to state-specific issues. Hoyle's chief of staff, Karmen Fore, stated that managing worsening wildfires is the current priority.

Golden has chosen to keep a distance from the national party's activities, focusing instead on engaging with voters in Maine's summer locales.

Focus on Primary Elections and Reelection Campaigns

Alaska Representative Mary Sattler Peltola and Washington Representative Marie Gluesenkamp Perez have also opted out of the convention. Peltola is engaged in a primary election this week, while Perez is focusing on her reelection campaign in Washington.

Perez's assistant, Emmett Avery, stated, "She's spending the time in the district and focused on her reelection," emphasizing the importance of local voter engagement over national party gatherings.
