Ellen DeGeneres And Portia De Rossi Leave The US After Trump's Win
In a surprising move post-election, Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi have relocated to the Cotswolds in England.
Following President-elect Donald Trump's victory, the couple decided to leave the United States, joining a list of celebrities considering similar moves, Fox News reported.
A close associate confirmed to The Wrap that the renowned talk show host and her actress spouse have settled in the quaint British region. They made this decision following the recent U.S. presidential election, in which Trump secured a second term.
Ellen And Portia's Departure Linked To Broader Celebrity Trend
In August, prior to their move, DeGeneres and de Rossi sold their lavish Montecito residence through Riskin Partners, a transaction reported by Fox News Digital. This sale seems to have been a part of their broader relocation plan.
Throughout the election period, DeGeneres publicly supported Vice President Kamala Harris. She reinforced her stance by sharing and praising Taylor Swift's endorsement of Harris on Instagram, showcasing her political alignment.
Last month, DeGeneres expressed her disillusionment with the entertainment industry in her Netflix special "For Your Approval," further hinting at the undercurrents leading to her departure.
Challenges Faced During Ellen's Show Run
Back in 2020, "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" came under fire for alleged toxic workplace conditions, leading to an internal probe by Warner Bros. This controversy marked a significant turn in DeGeneres' career, impacting her public image and professional relationships.
DeGeneres responded to the allegations by issuing an apology and promising reforms at her show. "On day one of our show, I told everyone in our first meeting that ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show‘ would be a place of happiness — no one would ever raise their voice, and everyone would be treated with respect. Obviously, something changed, and I am disappointed to learn that this has not been the case," she stated.
She continued, "I could not have the success I’ve had without all of your contributions. My name is on the show and everything we do and I take responsibility for that. Alongside Warner Bros., we immediately began an internal investigation and we are taking steps, together, to correct the issues. As we’ve grown exponentially, I’ve not been able to stay on top of everything and relied on others to do their jobs as they knew I’d want them done. Clearly some didn’t. That will now change and I’m committed to ensuring this does not happen again."
Celebrity Responses To Trump's Re-election
Other celebrities, such as Cher, Sharon Stone, Barbra Streisand, and Eva Longoria, also expressed dismay at Trump's re-election, with some declaring plans or intentions to leave the U.S. These sentiments reflect a broader discomfort among certain celebrity circles regarding the current political climate.
Cher articulated her intentions plainly: "If he gets in, who knows? This time I will leave [the country]." Similarly, Sharon Stone pondered purchasing a residence in Italy, stating, "I think that’s an intelligent construct at this time."
Barbra Streisand and Eva Longoria shared their apprehensions, with Streisand stating decisively, "I will move. I can't live in this country if he became president," and Longoria expressing her concerns for those unable to leave: "I’m privileged. I get to escape and go somewhere. Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them."
