Ellen DeGeneres' New UK Dream Home Swamped by Floods After Recent Storm

 December 1, 2024

Shortly after relocating from the United States, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi's newly acquired Cotswolds farmhouse was severely flooded due to Storm Bert.

DeGeneres, the renowned television host, recently moved to England in the wake of Donald Trump's election victory, and though she purchased a luxurious multi-million-pound farmhouse set on 43 picturesque acres, the residence has since been hit with severe flooding, as the Daily Mail reports.

The property boasted extensive amenities including a helicopter pad, a swimming pool, six bedrooms, and four bathrooms.

Additionally, it featured a five-bay garage and a quaint one-bedroom cottage.

Storm Bert Brings Unprecedented Rainfall

The move was soon overshadowed by the arrival of Storm Bert, which brought with it torrential rain and winds reaching speeds of up to 80 mph.

This severe weather caused a nearby river tributary to overflow, leading to significant flooding in the area.

Within days of their move, Ellen and Portia found their new home inundated. Roads surrounding their property became impassable, covered by as much as five feet of water.

The couple's newly acquired home was originally an old farmhouse that had been renovated into a luxury residence more than 15 years ago. Despite its old-world charm, the flooding posed a significant challenge.

Local Community Battles Floodwaters

Local residents have been severely affected, with many trapped in their homes due to the high floodwaters. A resident near Ellen's property shared their concerns, stating, "The flood waters are rising by the hour. This is the worst I have seen it in years."

The couple, known for their substantial real estate portfolio, paid £2.5 million above the asking price for their Cotswolds home, indicating their keen interest in this idyllic English property.

Before the flood, Ellen and Portia were spotted enjoying the local scene, including a visit to Jeremy Clarkson’s pub, The Farmer's Dog.

Rescue Efforts Underway in Flooded Areas

In response to the crisis, local farmers have been instrumental in rescue efforts, using tractors to save livestock, including sheep, from the flood-affected zones.

Despite the circumstances, the community's spirit has shown through, with efforts focused on ensuring safety and providing support where needed. The previous owner had installed an eco-friendly heat pump in the property, which is now being tested by the floods.

A source familiar with the DeGeneres's property noted its appeal, saying, "It really is a beautiful house. It's so quintessentially English which as Americans they have fallen in love with, although they can forget about any glamorous southern California nightlife and weather."

Ellen and Portia Navigate New Challenges

The couple's adjustment to their new life in the Cotswolds has been swift and fraught with unexpected challenges.

Their 4x4 vehicles, part of their preparation for rural living, have become essential in navigating the flooded terrain.

Ellen DeGeneres is no stranger to the real estate game, having bought and sold over 50 properties in her lifetime, including one previously owned by Brad Pitt.

As the community rallies together, Ellen and Portia are faced with the task of recovering from the flood's impacts, a stark contrast to the life they had planned in their idyllic English retreat.
