Trump's USCIS targets citizenship fraud with denaturalization push

 December 19, 2025

President Donald Trump’s administration is launching a bold offensive to yank U.S. citizenship from naturalized Americans who cheated their way into the system.

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is set to escalate its denaturalization efforts, planning to refer a staggering 100 to 200 cases each month to the Office of Immigration Litigation, a massive leap from the roughly 120 cases filed between 2017 and the present, as Breitbart reports.

This hardline strategy, driven by a commitment to uphold the integrity of the naturalization process, targets those who secured their status through deception, and it’s about time someone took a stand.

Aggressive Push to Root Out Fraud

Leading the charge is USCIS Director Joe Edlow, a figure determined to ensure that citizenship isn’t just handed out like candy at a parade.

Federal law backs this move, stating clearly that citizenship can be revoked if fraud was involved in the application process, alongside a handful of other specific circumstances.

While the legal foundation is solid, some activists are wringing their hands, fretting that this campaign might unfairly target individuals who made honest mistakes on their forms, potentially spreading fear among law-abiding citizens.

Concerns Versus Accountability

That concern for innocent errors carries weight, but let’s not pretend it’s a free pass to ignore deliberate fraud just to avoid ruffling feathers in progressive circles.

USCIS spokesman Matthew J. Tragesser didn’t shy away from the administration’s focus, pointing fingers at unlawful citizenships granted under previous leadership that turned a blind eye to vetting.

“It’s no secret that U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ war on fraud includes prioritizing those who’ve unlawfully obtained U.S. citizenship -- especially under the previous administration,” Tragesser declared with a sharpness that cuts through bureaucratic fluff.

Edlow’s Sharp Critique of Past Policies

Director Edlow has also taken aim at the Biden administration’s track record, which saw a whopping 3.5 million foreign nationals naturalized, outpacing the combined totals under Presidents Carter, Reagan, and George H.W. Bush.

In a candid chat with Breitbart News, Edlow criticized the idea of setting naturalization quotas, arguing for thorough vetting over rushed approvals.

“I don’t believe we should have quotas for how many naturalizations we do, how many adjustments we do,” Edlow told Breitbart News. “I want to make sure that the adjudicators are taking the proper amount of time to really screen and vet these individuals to make the determination that they are, in fact, qualified for the benefits that they are applying, including and most importantly, for naturalization.”

Restoring Trust in the System

Edlow’s rejection of quotas is a refreshing antidote to the numbers-driven madness that often sacrifices quality for quantity in immigration policy.

With monthly denaturalization referrals set to skyrocket, this initiative marks a pivotal moment to clean house, though it must strike a careful balance to avoid punishing those who erred in good faith.

Ultimately, citizenship is a privilege, not a loophole, and while this crackdown may unsettle some, it’s a necessary step to ensure the American dream isn’t cheapened by deceit -- let’s just hope the execution is as precise as the intent.
