Amy Klobuchar's blizzard speech praising Somali community resurfaces amid fraud scandal

 January 7, 2026

Hold onto your snow shovels, folks—Sen. Amy Klobuchar’s past praise for Minnesota’s Somali community has stormed back into the spotlight on social media.

With Gov. Tim Walz bowing out of the 2026 gubernatorial race, a vintage video of Klobuchar’s 2019 campaign launch has resurfaced alongside simmering questions about alleged fraud in Minnesota’s federally funded childcare programs, as Breitbart reports.

Let’s rewind to February 2019, when Klobuchar, braving a Minnesota blizzard, kicked off her presidential bid with a speech that could melt even the iciest conservative heart.

Klobuchar’s Chilly Rally

Standing in the snow, the senator took a stand against what she called “fearmongering” and “hate,” urging unity in a state known for its harsh winters and warm hospitality.

She spotlighted Minnesota’s distinction as home to the largest Somali population in the nation, declaring, “In Minnesota, we have the biggest Somali population in the country, and we are proud of that community.”

Well, pride is one thing, but with recent allegations of fraud tied to some community programs, one wonders if that pride comes with a hefty taxpayer bill.

A Heartwarming Story Amid Tension

Klobuchar shared a touching anecdote from a Somali-American family dining out in Minnesota, where a stranger’s harsh words were met with a child’s innocent rebuttal.

“This guy walked by, he looked down at them and said, ‘You four go home. You go home to where you came from,’” Klobuchar recounted. (Amy Klobuchar)

“And, the little girl looked up at her mom, and she said, ‘Mom, I don’t want to go home. You said we could eat out for dinner tonight,’” she continued, painting a picture of resilience.

Walz Exit Sparks Video Revival

Fast forward to now, and that snowy speech is trending on X, hours after Gov. Walz announced he’s stepping away from the 2026 race for governor.

The timing couldn’t be more curious, as citizen journalist Nick Shirley has been poking around Minnesota childcare centers that reportedly pocketed millions in federal aid with little to show for it.

Shirley even pointed out a sign at one “Quality Learning Center” that misspelled “learning” as “learing”—a small typo, perhaps, but symbolic of bigger oversight issues.

Fraud Allegations Cloud the Narrative

Adding fuel to the fire, Breitbart News’s John Nolte has highlighted court records and alternative media claims of massive scams, stating, “Somali fraudsters have bilked American taxpayers out of tens of billions of dollars through various scams.”

These alleged schemes, spanning food programs to daycare centers, raise serious questions about accountability in federal subsidies, even if Klobuchar’s intentions in 2019 were pure as driven snow.

While her blizzard rally aimed to bridge divides, today’s headlines suggest that some bridges might lead straight to a fiscal cliff—time for Minnesota to shovel out the truth.
