Arizona sheriff promises to arrest trespassers, blasts Biden immigration policy

 May 13, 2023

An Arizona sheriff is promising to arrest trespassers as Title 42 ends, speaking out against the Biden administration's border policies.

Sheriff Leon Wilmot shared the controversial message as the pandemic-era rule expires and thousands of additional migrants are expected to cross the southern border per day.

The Comments

"Any good leader that was facing this kind of situation would have stood up Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), got emergency funding for ICE, put up shelters in their temporary buildings to accommodate all this, so proper processing could be done," he said.

"He did none of this. So he doesn't have a plan. His plan is obviously intentionally to just allow everybody into this country and try to track down that many millions of people years down the road," Wilmot continued.

"It's a false narrative that this administration is pushing to the American people," he added.

The Crisis

The words came as a video has gone viral of authorities releasing hundreds of migrants into Brownsville, Texas, ias Title 42 expires.

The footage captured by Breitbart Texas noted that buses arrived approximately every 30 minutes to drop off migrants at a station on the way to their final destination.

The Situation

"The release of the migrants comes just hours before the Biden administration will end Title 42 removals — a move that is expected to cause a spike in irregular migration as thousands of migrants continue to make their way north through Mexico," Breitbart reported.

"In just the past three days, Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley Sector apprehended more than 9,000 migrants in the past three days, Breitbart Texas reported on Thursday. Nearly 3,000 were apprehended on Wednesday alone. These contributed to the nearly 31,000 migrants apprehended along the entire southwest border during the three-day period ending Wednesday," it added.

Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz traveled to the southern border as the COVID-19 era policy expired.

"We already have the worst illegal immigration in the history of our country & it’s about to get worse," he tweeted.

"Biden needs to stop hiding in the basement and go see this humanitarian crisis," he added.

Despite a GOP effort to pass a border act on Thursday, the situation is expected to grow worse as Title 42 is now over and thousands more migrants cross the border daily into the U.S.
