Biden administration caught auctioning off parts of border wall

 August 20, 2023

The Biden administration is reportedly auctioning off components designated for the southern border wall extension.

According to a revelation by the New York Post, parts meant for extending the border wall along the U.S. southern boundary are being discreetly sold by the Biden administration. GovPlanet, an online auction house, has played a pivotal role in this by selling more than 80 steel components intended for the barrier, as reported by the Daily Wire.

Over $2 million made from auctioned parts

Since April, sales on GovPlanet have totaled approximately $2 million. These transactions are raising eyebrows among some critics.

They speculate that President Joe Biden is swiftly getting rid of these unused pieces to thwart potential House Republican moves to mandate their use for wall expansion.

Last month, a defense appropriations package was approved by the Democrat-majority Senate.

Included in this package was a bill sponsored by Republicans, intending to push the Biden administration to address the border issues by further extending the wall.

Republican senators criticize the sales

Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) expressed deep concern over the matter. He highlighted the contrast between the minimal earnings from the parts' sale and the potentially vast social costs associated with unchecked border crossings.

Lankford said:

The pennies made from selling the border wall will not be enough to pay the families who suffer from a criminal act committed by someone who crossed our open borders during the Biden administration.

Another vocal critic, Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS), was pivotal in co-sponsoring the “Finish It Act.” He deemed Biden’s decisions in this matter as indications of "outrageous, behind-the-scenes maneuvering."

Wicker stated:

This sale is a wasteful and ludicrous decision by the Biden administration that only serves as further proof they have no shame.

GovPlanet's auction schedule aligns with political moves

The auctioning frequency on GovPlanet reportedly surged in May. This increase directly followed Sen. Wicker's introduction of the Finish It Act.

An additional spike in activity occurred right after the Senate approved the defense package. For the bill to become law, its counterpart must be approved by House Republicans.

Approximately $300 million worth of taxpayer-funded parts for the border wall have reportedly been left unused since President Biden assumed office.

Funds generated from these sales are believed to be redirected to the Pentagon.

Officials remain tight-lipped about auction items

In an earlier report, an anonymous source from GovPlanet communicated with The Daily Upside.

While the source refrained from overtly connecting the parts to the border wall, they left little room for doubt.

The anonymous source said:

We are legally not allowed to mention these are the border wall materials, or we could lose our jobs. But that’s what they are – 110 percent.

Record number of illegal crossings since Biden's tenure

Data indicate that since Biden took office, illegal crossings into the U.S. have been at an all-time high.

Estimates suggest the number might exceed five million.

Specifically, U.S. Customs and Border Protection data shows 1,973,092 southwest land border encounters in the fiscal year 2023, starting from October.
