Biden and Harris Silent After Drone Attack

 October 21, 2024

An Iranian-backed drone attack aimed at the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's private residence marks a significant international incident.

Though the attack involved three drones launched by Hezbollah, major political figures, including U.S. President Biden and Vice President Harris, did not contact Netanyahu to convey their concerns, Breitbart reported.

The assault occurred when Hezbollah launched three drones directed at Israeli territory. Two of these drones were intercepted successfully, but one managed to breach defenses and reached Netanyahu's personal home.

Netanyahu and his wife were not there during the attack, and fortunately, no injuries were reported. The Israeli Prime Minister, responding to the event, issued a stark warning towards Iran about the implications of such actions.

International Reactions Vary Amid Tensions

Despite this grave attempt on Netanyahu's life, leading U.S. figures, including President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, have not initiated contact with the Israeli premier.

Their silence stands in contrast to reactions from other significant political leaders. Former U.S. President Donald Trump and Speaker of the House Mike Johnson have reached out to Netanyahu following the incident.

United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer directly contacted Netanyahu, expressing his concern over the drone attack. Starmer conveyed that he found the event "alarming", underlining a more supportive stance toward Israel amid rising tensions.

Lack Of U.S. Communication Under Scrutiny

The absence of communication from President Biden might be partially explained by the current strained relations between the U.S. administration and Netanyahu. Recently, Vice President Harris openly criticized Israel's military actions, attributing "human suffering" to their operations in Gaza.

Earlier in the week, Biden himself opposed Israel's military initiatives in Rafah. These diplomatic strains might have influenced their decision not to reach out after the assassination attempt.

Meanwhile, Netanyahu has strongly criticized Iran's involvement in the attack, branding it an egregious error that could potentially escalate tensions in the region. Such accusations emphasize the volatile geopolitical landscape surrounding Israel.

Trump And Johnson Extend Support

Former President Trump showed support by communicating directly with Netanyahu. This underscores Trump's historically strong ties with the Israeli leadership during his own tenure as President.

Similarly, House Speaker Mike Johnson added his voice to those offering support and collaboration with Israel during this tense period.

Their actions stand in reconciliation with statements from other international leaders who have expressed their concern over the incident. These gestures point to a broader international engagement with Israel's security concerns.

Hezbollah's Actions Highlight Regional Instability

Hezbollah's attack implicates wider regional instability, particularly involving Iranian-backed actors. The incident emphasizes the ongoing threat that Hezbollah poses to Israel's sovereignty and highlights the volatile relationship between these neighboring regions.

While Biden and Harris continue to face questions regarding their silence, other leaders are clearly addressing Israel's pressing security concerns.

Netanyahu's warning that the assassination attempt was a grave mistake certainly suggests that tensions may continue to rise. The broader implications of this incident will likely reverberate across geopolitical lines in the coming weeks.
