Biden ditched WNBA champions as he headed out on vacation

 August 26, 2023

Recent events have highlighted just how much President Joe Biden prefers vacations over previously scheduled commitments.

After extending an invitation to the 2022 WNBA champions -- the Las Vegas Aces -- for a White House ceremony honoring their success, Biden unexpectedly chose to lengthen his vacation, leaving the team to meet with Vice President Kamala Harris instead.

This event was highly anticipated by the team after President Biden and first lady Jill Biden extended the formally invitation on July 17th, as the Daily Wire reported.

Team's White House Anticipation

Team president Nikki Fargas expressed the team's enthusiasm in the lead up to the visit during an interview with a local ABC affiliate, stating that the players were "excited and honored" to have this opportunity.

Speaking about the team's journey and achievements, Fargas elaborated, "I know that all of our players and front office staff who worked so hard to help build that championship team and elevate this franchise will enjoy taking part in the festivities."

However, many athletes often look forward to the unique experience of meeting the nation's leader, regarding it as a high acknowledgment of their dedicated efforts.

This anticipated experience was not to be for the Aces, as they found themselves greeted by Vice President Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, rather than the president.

Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy noted a shift in the expected proceedings when he observed the vice president's seal on the podium instead of the president's.

He mentioned that the original plan had the president and the first lady hosting the Aces. However, an extended vacation resulted in their absence.

He added that the president's return was rescheduled to the following day, and although his current activities remained unclear, there were sightings of the presidential motorcade in the South Lake Tahoe region.

Interruptions During the President's Vacation

Coinciding with President Biden's vacation, a severe wildfire occurred in Hawaii, causing the tragic loss of nearly 200 lives with hundreds of others missing.

Despite the crisis, it took the president nearly two weeks to address it.

When he did comment during a visit to Maui, he made a perplexing comparison of the catastrophe to an instance when he allegedly almost lost his Corvette in a minor kitchen fire.

Additionally, he made a light-hearted quip about the ground's high temperature.

Event Outcome and Public Perception

The Las Vegas Aces have not yet issued a public statement about the change in their White House reception.

However, meeting the country's top executive is undeniably a significant honor for any championship team.

The change, which led them to meet the vice president instead of the president, certainly captured the attention of media outlets and the public alike.
