The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has halted the Biden administration's CHNV program, which allowed expedited U.S. entry for migrants from specific nations, doing so amid serious fraud concerns. This move comes as an audit exposes extensive misuse within the program.

An investigation into the CHNV program revealed rampant fraud involving Social Security numbers and fake contact information, prompting a temporary suspension of the initiative, as the Washington Examiner reports.

Launched 18 months ago, the CHNV program facilitated the entry of migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.

It was designed to manage migration flow more efficiently, bypassing traditional, lengthier immigration processes.

Extensive Frauds Uncovered in Federal Audit

The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) report highlighted multiple fraudulent activities connected to the CHNV application process.

Notably, it found Social Security numbers assigned to deceased individuals being used in applications.

Further investigations by FAIR discovered numerous applications linked to about 100 street addresses, including non-residential locations like warehouses and storage units. This raised significant concerns about the legitimacy of the applications filed.

Additionally, the report identified around 100 IP addresses that were responsible for submitting over 51,133 applications, suggesting a high level of orchestrated fraud.

Since its full implementation in January 2023, the CHNV program admitted over 494,000 migrants at a rate of about 30,000 per month. Applicants were required to have a U.S. sponsor, undergo a security vetting process, and pay for their flight.

The program's design was previously criticized by Republican lawmakers, who argued that it circumvented standard immigration procedures and could potentially lead to misuse.

Following the discovery of these issues, DHS has pledged to conduct a thorough investigation through its Homeland Security Investigations unit to address the fraud allegations comprehensively.

House Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green criticized the program, stating, "This is exactly what happens when you create an unlawful mass-parole program in order to spare your administration the political embarrassment and bad optics of overrun borders."
