Biden's WH physician invokes Fifth Amendment in House probe deposition

 July 11, 2025

Former President Joe Biden’s former White House physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, remained silent during a 20-minute deposition before the House Oversight Committee, invoking the Fifth Amendment 14 times in response to questions about the president’s health, as the Western Journal reports.

This development has intensified concerns about a possible cover-up of Biden's physical and cognitive condition while in office and has reignited calls from lawmakers for greater transparency.

The deposition is part of a broader congressional inquiry into whether information about Biden’s medical fitness was intentionally concealed from the public and Congress.

O’Connor’s silence fuels speculation

O’Connor declined to answer two key questions: whether he was ever told to lie about Biden’s health, and whether the then-president was unfit to carry out his constitutional responsibilities.

Committee chair James Comer called the physician’s actions alarming, describing them as potential evidence that a deliberate effort was made to obscure the president’s condition.

“The American people demand transparency,” Comer said, “but Dr. O’Connor would rather conceal the truth.”

Lawmakers question doctor's motives

Rep. Ronny Jackson, a former White House physician himself, accused O’Connor of being involved in what he called a “horrific scandal,” claiming the doctor’s silence suggests he may be protecting himself from legal exposure.

Jackson argued that the Oversight Committee’s questions did not breach doctor-patient confidentiality and dismissed the idea that O’Connor was acting out of concern for Biden’s privacy.

“Dr. Kevin O’Connor covered it up,” Jackson stated, alleging that the physician knew Biden was not mentally fit to serve and chose to stay silent to avoid accountability.

White House remained mum

The Biden administration was known for denying claims of cognitive concerns plaguing the president and aggressively questioning the motives of journalists who raised the topic.

While the committee weighs the possibility of more subpoenas or witness testimonies, lawmakers are emphasizing the national security implications of having had a sitting president who was incapable of carrying out the duties of the job.

Rep. Jackson claimed O’Connor “destroyed his own credibility” by pleading the Fifth on straightforward matters central to national interest.

Transparency, public trust at stake

Investigators argue that the health of a sitting president should not be shielded from public scrutiny when questions of capacity arise, especially in matters affecting leadership and decision-making.

Rep. Comer said O’Connor’s refusal to answer “adds more fuel to the fire” of a potential cover-up, citing the physician’s ties to the Biden family and his continued silence under oath.

As the investigation moves forward, pressure continues to mount for those who were key figures in the Biden White House to tell what they knew and when.
