DeSantis: Federal Investigators Hindering Florida Trump Assassination Attempt Probe

 September 20, 2024

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has accused federal investigators of obstructing the state's investigation into an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

During an interview with Fox News' Laura Ingraham on Thursday, DeSantis revealed that Florida state officials were struggling to obtain cooperation from federal authorities under the Biden administration regarding the incident that occurred Sunday at Trump International Golf Club, as the Daily Wire reports.

The governor authorized Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody to lead a state criminal investigation into the attack on Trump, marking the second assassination attempt on the former president, but progress appears to be stalled.

According to DeSantis, state investigators were rebuffed when attempting to approach the perimeter of the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, where the incident took place over the weekend. He expressed concern that the Biden-Harris administration might be deliberately hindering Florida's involvement in the investigation.

DeSantis Orders State Investigation into Incident

Earlier in the week, DeSantis signed an executive order authorizing a state investigation into the incident. The Florida Attorney General's office, led by Ashley Moody, has been tasked with pursuing potential criminal charges. DeSantis emphasized the importance of the investigation, citing several potential violations of Florida law.

“We think at least three judicial circuits were impacted by this individual's actions,” DeSantis stated. “As a result, we have a duty to investigate, bring appropriate charges, and inform the public about the details of this case.”

The governor has repeatedly called for transparency in the investigation and believes that both state and federal law enforcement agencies should collaborate in addressing the attempted assassination of Trump.

Florida Law Enforcement Mobilizes to Secure Evidence

In response to the assassination attempt, DeSantis has instructed state law enforcement agencies to collect and preserve key evidence from the suspect, including his digital trail and social media accounts. The suspect, found hiding in the bushes near the Trump International Golf Club, reportedly attempted to assassinate the former president, who is also the current Republican nominee.

“We need to know how this individual ended up in Florida,” DeSantis said, stressing the importance of tracking the suspect’s digital footprint. “It's essential to understand how he reached the point of attempting to assassinate the former president and what connections or motivations he may have had.”

DeSantis also raised concerns that tech companies might delete the suspect's social media accounts, which could hinder the investigation. He instructed state law enforcement to save all relevant digital content as part of the ongoing inquiry.

Questions Remain on Other Incidents

During the interview, DeSantis mentioned that there are still unresolved questions surrounding the Butler shooting in July, where Trump was reportedly shot, as well as other incidents such as the Las Vegas shooting from previous years. He suggested that the federal government has been slow to provide answers on these matters as well.

Part of Florida’s investigation will focus on uncovering the suspect's motive, his associations, and his ideological beliefs. DeSantis believes that revealing this information to the public is critical for understanding how the assassination attempt came about.

DeSantis Pushes for Public Accountability

DeSantis reiterated the state’s responsibility to thoroughly investigate the situation and bring those involved to justice. He also noted that the lack of cooperation from federal investigators could impede the state’s ability to fulfill its duty to the public.

“There were multiple violations of Florida law, and we owe it to the people of this state to ensure that justice is served,” DeSantis said. “Our investigation will provide evidence of what happened, and we are committed to making sure the public understands how this unfolded.”

As the investigation continues, DeSantis remains determined to proceed with or without federal cooperation. He emphasized the state's obligation to uphold the law and to protect its citizens from potential threats.

Conclusion

Gov. Ron DeSantis' recent comments reflect growing tensions between Florida state officials and federal investigators over the handling of the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.

Despite limited cooperation from federal authorities, DeSantis has vowed to move forward with the investigation, led by Attorney General Ashley Moody.

Florida’s focus on preserving digital evidence and understanding the suspect's motives signals the state’s commitment to transparency. The public eagerly awaits further developments as the investigation seeks to uncover the full extent of the incident.
