Details of Trump's peace plan for Ukraine leaked

 February 7, 2025

U.S. President Donald Trump is reportedly working on plans to broker a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia by Easter, despite denials from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky regarding the existence of such plans.

The proposed Trump initiative, details of which were recently leaked, suggests a ceasefire by April 20 and aims to engage international support in order to establish peace, as the Daily Mail reports.

Sources indicate that Trump's plans, as reported by Ukrainian news outlet Strana, include conditions such as Ukraine not joining NATO and possibly recognizing Russian claims to annexed territories.

However, Zelensky has dismissed these suggestions, emphasizing that no such agreements have been made.

Ukraine’s Potential Concession and Denials

Trump's ambitious proposal reportedly posits that a ceasefire could be reached within a day, aiming for a resolution within 100 days. This would involve Ukraine withdrawing troops from the Russian-controlled Kursk region and potentially establishing a demilitarized zone with European, but not American, troops.

Among details on the proposed peace plan, economic implications include Ukraine receiving reconstruction aid from the European Union, totaling an estimated $486 billion over ten years.

If successful, this plan could pave the way for a conversation between Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin before a formal meeting by late February or early March, aiming for a ceasefire announcement by April 20.

In response to these claims, Zelensky and his cabinet have strongly refuted the alleged plans, branding them as myths. Andriy Yermak, a senior official in Ukraine, speculates that these might be misinformation efforts emanating from Russian sources.

International Dynamics and Speculated Outcomes

Meanwhile, Russian spokesperson Maria Zakharova has called for clarity on the U.S.’ role and the steps involved in this speculative ceasefire deal.

She pointed out the lack of clear action points, urging all parties to focus on tangible efforts rather than speculative statements.

The rumored peace initiative hints at an International Peace Conference, proposed by Trump, aimed at ending the war and allowing Ukraine's European Union membership by 2030.

This could potentially lift sanctions on Russian energy over several years, with part of the proceeds expected to assist Ukraine's recovery efforts.

Despite these plans swirling in the media, the ground reality in Ukraine remains tense. Russia retains control over roughly 20% of Ukrainian territory after holding controversial referendums endorsing its annexation claims.

Zelensky’s Vision and Military Developments

Recent military developments include Ukraine's successful attack on a Russian airfield, previously used for launching Shahed drones. Additionally, France has completed the delivery of Mirage jets to aid Ukraine's defense capabilities.

President Zelensky has been vocal about Ukraine's aspirations and strategic stance. He reiterated that the conflict initiated by Russia is not just an attack on Ukraine but also on Europe and the global order.

According to him, excluding Ukraine from the negotiation process would render any solution ineffective or merely symbolic.

Amid these diplomatic challenges, Ukraine is also striving for self-reliance. To reduce dependency on Western arms, it is accelerating the development of long-range drones. Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces have successfully intercepted several Russian attacks, ensuring no casualties in recent skirmishes.

The discourse surrounding Trump's purported peace plan and Zelensky's firm denials highlight the complexity of geopolitical negotiations. Each party remains rooted in its perspectives while addressing the challenging realities of conflict resolution. As these developments unfold, clarity and actionable dialogue remain vital for any potential peace talks.
