Exclusive: Rep. Wesley Hunt Endorses Hegseth For Defense Secretary, Trusts Trump’s Leadership

 December 8, 2024

According to Breitbart, Texas Congressman Wesley Hunt backs Pete Hegseth for the role of Secretary of Defense, reaffirming his allegiance to President-elect Donald Trump's decision.

Amid speculation about his own aspirations for the Secretary of Defense position, Texas Representative Wesley Hunt has voiced unequivocal support for Pete Hegseth, President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee. This announcement was made during an appearance on Fox Business’ "Varney & Co."Hunt, a West Point graduate and former Army Captain, stressed his commitment to Trump’s choices, clarifying that he has no intentions of seeking the role himself. Instead, he aims to facilitate a unified GOP front to confirm Trump's nominees swiftly.

Republican Unity Emphasized For Cabinet Confirmations

During his television appearance, Hunt highlighted the need for Republican unity. He urged his party colleagues to trust in the leadership of President-elect Trump and support his cabinet picks without reservation.

Hunt’s remarks to Breitbart News further underscored this sentiment, stating, "It is imperative that we stand united in supporting [Trump’s] nominees and ensure their swift confirmation." He specifically mentioned Pete Hegseth, advocating for his rapid approval by the Senate.

The Congressman explicitly denied running a shadow campaign for the defense position, criticizing those who might undermine the party’s collective goals.

Hegseth’s Credentials and Senate Lobbying Efforts

Pete Hegseth, the nominated Secretary of Defense, is a former host on Fox News and a National Guard veteran. His background includes prestigious academic achievements with degrees from Princeton and Harvard, complemented by a robust military career.

Trump lauded Hegseth’s qualifications and character, describing him as a “winner” with a military mindset, well-suited for the Department of Defense. "He was a great student – Princeton/Harvard educated – with a Military state of mind. He will be a fantastic, high-energy, Secretary of Defense, one who leads with charisma and skill," Trump praised.

Hegseth will actively engage Senate members to garner support as his confirmation hearing, anticipated to occur in early to mid-January, becomes a focal point in Senate proceedings.

Hunt’s Military Background and Education

Wesley Hunt’s background as an Apache helicopter pilot and his extensive military and academic credentials from Cornell University position him as a knowledgeable advocate for military affairs. His service history and educational achievements inform his perspectives on defense and national security.

In a Breitbart News Daily interview, Hunt conveyed his confidence in Trump’s ability to lead and make strategic cabinet choices. "Trump was given a mandate … by the American people, and I trust President Trump and I trust his decision-making ability," he stated.

Hunt reinforces the importance of the America First policy and aims to immediately advance these initiatives, clearly demonstrating his commitment to the Trump administration and its agenda.
