Fetterman Advocates for Trump Pardon, Claims NYC Case Politically Driven

 December 6, 2024

During a recent episode of ABC's The View, Sen. John Fetterman expressed strong opinions on the political motivations behind the legal challenges faced by Hunter Biden and Donald Trump.

Fetterman discussed the necessity for fairness in legal proceedings and advocated for pardoning Trump over New York criminal charges he deemed politically motivated, as Breitbart reports.

On Thursday's broadcast, Fetterman highlighted the potential damage to public trust when legal systems are used for political gain. He expressed concerns over the impact of such cases on the public's view of important institutions.

Discussion on Political Bias in Legal Cases

The senator from Pennsylvania argued that both the Hunter Biden and Donald Trump cases were instances of political weaponization.

He suggested that both figures should receive pardons to restore confidence in the judicial system.

"I think it’s undeniable that the case against Hunter Biden was really politically motivated, but I also think it’s true that the trial in New York for Trump, that was political as well," Fetterman stated during the show.

Fetterman Calls for Restoration of Institutional Trust

By discussing the need for pardons, Fetterman emphasized that pardoning Trump and Biden would counteract the misuse of legal systems as political tools.

He argued this was essential to maintaining the integrity of these institutions.

"And in both cases, I think a pardon is appropriate and I really think collectively America’s confidence in these kind of institutions have been damaged by these kinds of cases," he elaborated.

Joy Behar Questions Biden's Potential Pardon

The View co-host Joy Behar brought into discussion the backlash against President Biden, potentially pardoning his son. She questioned whether the criticism was justified or overblown.

"President Biden’s decision to pardon his son Hunter is facing bipartisan backlash, even the Democrats are all over it. But what do you think? Is it much ado about nothing?" Behar asked Fetterman.

Behar also raised concerns about the implications of such pardons on Trump's actions should he return to office, specifically regarding those convicted in the January 6 Capitol riot.

Senator Clarifies His Stance on Trump's New York Trial

Fetterman reiterated his focus on the New York case against Trump, distancing his commentary from the broader issues of Jan. 6-related convictions.

He expressed frustration with how quickly his party was to label Trump a felon, contradicting their general stance on criminal justice reform.

"No, no, no, I’m not referring to that. I’m talking about the New York trial and now the Democrats on our side, there were some that were gleeful, now he’s a convicted felon and those things and now for our party, we were talking about criminal justice and we are now talking about second chances and now all of a sudden now you’re, like, well, he’s a convicted felon and all these things and now clearly, again, both of those trials, the Hunter Biden one and the trial in New York for Trump, that was clearly those politically motivated and those kinds of charges would have never been brought unless one side could realize they could weaponize that," Fetterman explained.

Broader Implications of Political Influence in Legal Matters

Through his statements, Fetterman called for a reassessment of how legal actions are perceived and initiated, suggesting that the current climate could lead to long-term damage to the credibility of key American institutions.

The discussion highlighted the complex interplay between politics and the legal system, underlining the challenge of maintaining non-partisan integrity within judicial proceedings.

Fetterman's appearance on The View has sparked a wider conversation about the role of politics in judicial processes and the potential for systemic reform to address these issues.
