Former Rival Accused Of Plotting Violence Against FL Rep. Anna Paulina Luna

 September 30, 2024

William Robert Braddock III has been indicted for threats against his political rival during the 2021 election.

Charges were just unveiled against Braddock for threatening to kill Florida Representative Anna Paulina Luna and another individual, as Just the News reports.

Once a contender for the 13th Congressional District of Florida, Braddock is now facing serious criminal allegations.

He was charged with making life-threatening statements against Luna and another person referred to in the documents only as Victim 1 and Victim 2, respectively.

These charges came to light when the Department of Justice released an indictment this past Thursday, which was then publicly announced on the following Friday.

Initial Threats Revealed in Recorded Conversation

In a disturbing turn of events, it was revealed that Braddock, during a phone call on June 8, 2021, with Victim 2, threatened both individuals.

He expressed his willingness to hire a "Russian-Ukrainian hit squad" to eliminate Luna, whom he derogatorily referred to as a "dead squirrel."

The threat was part of a recorded conversation where Braddock starkly stated the potential need for violence.

"I really don’t want to have to end anybody’s life for the good of the people of the United States of America. That will break my heart. But if it needs to be done, it needs to be done," he said during the call.

This recording was later used by authorities to help build the case against him. The conservative activist who recorded Braddock did so amid growing concerns over his aggressive rhetoric.

Flight and Apprehension Abroad

Following the threats, Braddock left the United States and was subsequently located in the Philippines.

His stay there ended when he was deported back to the U.S., making his initial court appearance in Los Angeles.

Braddock's arrest and deportation mark a significant step in the legal proceedings that have drawn attention due to the nature of the threats and the profile of the individuals involved.

The legal documents revealed that after his return, Braddock continued to deny the accusations, claiming the recordings could have been altered.

However, a restraining order was later issued by a judge, affirming the seriousness of the threats.

Election Outcome and Broader Implications

While the legal drama unfolded, Anna Paulina Luna successfully secured her position as the representative for Florida's 13th District in 2022. Her victory came after a previous loss to former Gov. Charlie Crist.

Braddock's threats and subsequent legal troubles have cast a shadow over what was already a highly competitive race.

The case continues to be a point of concern for both political and legal observers, as it touches on issues of security and the integrity of the electoral process.
