Fox Host Removes Name from Consideration to Become Trump's Treasury Secretary

 November 17, 2024

Larry Kudlow, a seasoned economist and media personality, has chosen not to be considered for a top role in the upcoming Trump administration's economic team.

In a significant turn of events, Kudlow withdrew his name from a potential candidacy for key economic positions in the forthcoming Trump administration after signing a new contract with Fox Business, as the Daily Mail reports.

Kudlow us well known for his tenure as director of the National Economic Council under President Trump from April 2018 to January 2021.

He was said to be under consideration for leadership roles again as Trump plans his return to the White House.

Kudlow, however, met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago earlier this week, leading to speculations about his return to public service.

Kudlow Chooses Media Career Over Cabinet Position

Despite the potential of resuming a high-profile government role, Kudlow opted to continue his career in television.

He recently signed a new deal to remain with Fox Business, where he hosts a popular economic show.

"Larry Kudlow recently signed a new deal to continue hosting his eponymous program on FOX Business and has no plans to leave his current role helming one of the highest-rated shows on the network," a Fox News spokesperson said.

This decision comes at a time when Trump has been tapping other television personalities to fill major roles.

The nomination of Pete Hegseth, another Fox News host, to lead the Defense Department is another such instance.

Trump's Search for Economic Leaders Continues

With Kudlow out of the picture, the race for the Treasury Secretary and other economic leadership positions within Trump's potential administration is heating up.

Among the names being considered are financiers Scott Bessent, Howard Lutnick, and Marc Rowan, as well as former trade representative Robert Lighthizer.

Another notable figure, billionaire John Paulson, also confirmed that he would not be participating in Trump’s administration, focusing instead on his private financial interests.

Trump continues to meet with various potential candidates to solidify his economic team ahead of what promises to be a highly competitive election cycle.

Kudlow's Enduring Support for Trump's Economic Policies

During his post-administration career at Fox Business, Kudlow has consistently advocated for Trump's economic policies.

He has voiced strong support for initiatives such as tariffs and corporate tax cuts, which he often discusses on his show.

Conversely, Kudlow has been critical of recent economic policies enacted by the Democrats, such as the CHIPS Act and the bipartisan infrastructure deal, highlighting his continued alignment with Trump's economic vision.

The decision by Kudlow to remain with Fox Business rather than returning to a government role underlines his commitment to influencing public economic discourse through media.
