Graham Urges Biden, Israel To Hold Iran Accountable After Hostages Killed

 September 2, 2024

Sen. Lindsey Graham has called for swift and decisive action against Iran after six hostages, including Israeli-American Hersh Goldberg-Polin, were found brutally murdered by Hamas.

Graham’s comments came during an appearance on ABC’s This Week, where he also leveled sharp criticism at Vice President Kamala Harris for what he described as a disastrous approach to foreign policy that has undermined U.S. security and credibility and facilitated the brutality of Hamas against Goldberg-Polin, as Fox News reports.

Goldberg-Polin, 23, was among those taken hostage by Hamas during a violent attack on Oct. 7 at a music festival in southern Israel. The attack left him severely injured, with the loss of part of his left arm due to a grenade explosion. Despite the tireless efforts of his parents, John and Rachel Goldberg-Polin, to secure his release, their son remained in captivity for 11 months until his tragic death.

Hostage Murder Sparks Outrage And Calls For Action

The bodies of Goldberg-Polin and five other hostages were recovered from a tunnel in Rafah, near the site where another hostage had been rescued alive the previous week. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported that the hostages were killed shortly before their forces arrived on the scene.

The other victims were identified as Ori Danino, 25; Eden Yerushalmi, 24; Almog Sarusi, 27; Alexander Lobanov, 33; and Carmel Gat, 40, who had been abducted from the Be’eri farming community.

In response to the gruesome discovery, Graham expressed his profound sorrow for the families involved, particularly highlighting the Goldberg-Polins’ ordeal. "Heartbroken. Yeah. Devastated. Mad," Graham said, describing the emotions of John and Rachel. "They did everything in their power to help their son be released after 11 months of captivity."

Graham Criticizes Harris' Foreign Policy Record

Graham did not stop at expressing his grief. He also issued a stern warning to the Biden administration and Israel, urging them to hold Iran accountable for the fate of the remaining hostages. He referred to Iran as "the Great Satan," positioning Hamas as a "junior partner" in their barbaric actions.

"They’re barbaric, religious Nazis," Graham stated, emphasizing that Hamas holds no regard for either hostages or the Palestinian people. He called for a direct targeting of Iran’s oil refineries should the hostages not be released, signaling a need for stronger deterrents.

Graham then shifted his focus to Vice President Harris, whom he accused of sending mixed signals to Middle Eastern terrorists by boycotting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s congressional address. This action, according to Graham, conveyed that "America really doesn’t have Israel’s back."

Harris’ Role In Afghanistan Withdrawal Under Fire

Graham's critique of Harris extended beyond the Israel-Hamas conflict. He lambasted her role in the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, calling it "the dumbest decision maybe in modern history by an American administration." Harris had reportedly been the last person in the room when the decision was made, a point Graham highlighted to underscore her influence over the disastrous outcome.

The withdrawal from Afghanistan led to the deaths of 13 U.S. service members in a bombing by ISIS-K, an event Graham directly attributed to the Biden administration's incompetence. He accused Harris of cheerleading the decision, thereby contributing to the loss of American lives and the rise of terrorism.

Graham Discusses Other Foreign Policy Failures

Graham continued to criticize Harris on various fronts, including her handling of the U.S. border crisis and her approach to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. He recounted how, during a visit to Munich, Harris had warned Russia not to invade Ukraine, only to have the invasion occur four days later.

He also condemned her oversight of the U.S. border, where he claimed that more terrorists have entered the country than at any time in history. The surge in fentanyl poisoning among young Americans was another point of contention, with Graham attributing it to the current administration's failures.

Concerns Over U.S. Deterrence And National Security

In perhaps his most scathing remark, Graham described Harris as a "wrecking ball on foreign policy," asserting that the current administration has been the most incompetent in recent memory when it comes to issues of national security and prosperity. He warned that the loss of U.S. deterrence under Harris’ watch could lead to another 9/11-style attack, citing the broken border and rising terrorism as key concerns.

Graham did not shy away from linking these perceived failures to the broader debate about American leadership and security. He argued that the Biden administration’s incompetence, particularly Harris' role, has made the world a more dangerous place for Americans.

Conclusion: Graham’s Call For Accountability

Sen. Lindsey Graham’s appearance on ABC’s This Week was marked by his urgent call for President Biden and Israel to take decisive action against Iran in the wake of the recent hostage killings.

He also used the platform to deliver a pointed critique of Vice President Kamala Harris' foreign policy record, describing her as a "wrecking ball" whose decisions have compromised U.S. security.

Graham’s comments underscore the growing concerns among some U.S. leaders about the country’s current approach to foreign policy and its potential consequences on the global stage.

The senator concluded with a stark warning: "If you want to avoid more dead Americans, vote for Trump."
