Hunter Biden abandons 'revenge porn' lawsuit against Fox News

 June 10, 2025

Hunter Biden has put a stop to his legal proceedings against Fox News, which he initiated due to a series that aired sexually explicit images of him, as Mediaite reports.

This decision marks the second instance in which Hunter has ceased legal challenges against the network over the same series.

In April 2024, Hunter Biden first threatened legal action against Fox News, which led to the removal of the contentious series from the Fox Nation platform.

This series was made available to viewers in late October 2022, framing itself as a fictionalized "mock trial" of Biden. Though he took no apparent issue with the production upon its release, Biden expressed his grievances well over a year later.

The media offering in question, which Hunter alleges is not representative of any legitimate news or informational value, was designed as an entertainment piece. Following Biden's initial threats, Fox News responded by removing it as a precautionary measure. The network consequently faced a lawsuit in July 2024 which was soon retracted.

Fox News fights back against claims

In October 2024, Hunter launched another lawsuit against Fox, this time asserting that the network was in violation of New York Civil Rights Law Section 52-b, part of the legislation addressing "revenge porn." However, this legal effort was also short-lived.

Attempts by Hunter's legal team to transition the case from a federal court to the jurisdiction of New York state court did not prove successful. This legal failure contributed to the decision to dismiss the lawsuit entirely last week.

Fox News, in response to the dismissal, expressed relief and satisfaction.

A spokesperson for the network remarked that the claim was "devoid of merit" and insinuated that it was politically charged in nature.

Fallout unfolds

"We are pleased to move on now that Hunter Biden has finally voluntarily withdrawn this meritless case," Fox News declared, reinforcing a belief that the lawsuit was merely a political maneuver. Such sentiments were echoed in the broader media landscape.

In Hunter's July filing, he criticized the network for attempting to "commercialize" his identity in a manner that he believed contravened standard reporting. His contention was that the series lacked a foundation in actual criminal proceedings.

Fox News, for its part, maintained that the program had been in circulation since 2022, and noted that the concerns were only raised after a significant time had elapsed.

In response to the lawsuit, the network reviewed and ultimately decided to retract the series, though they did so primarily out of an "abundance of caution."

Ongoing legal back-and-forth ends

This is not the first time Hunter Biden has engaged in litigation against Fox News only to retract it later. His grievances centered on the network's presentation and portrayal of him in the series.

With the legal actions now set aside, both parties can turn their attention elsewhere. Fox remains firm in their stance, seeing Hunter's claims as lacking legal standing.

Given the political landscape, these developments continue to draw attention, underscoring the intersection of media, law, and public figures. The withdrawal concludes, at least for now, a series of legal entanglements.

Hunter's legal confrontations with Fox may be at an end, but the narrative will likely persist in different forms. With changes in the political and media environment, responses from public figures to media portrayals remain a contentious issue.

As a result of this cessation in legal proceedings, there lies a question regarding the influence of media portrayals on personal and political lives. Observers will continue to scrutinize the implications of such media narratives going forward.
