Hunter Biden Should Be Jailed, Say Biden Voters

 July 4, 2024

A significant portion of voters, including a majority who supported Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election, believe Hunter Biden should serve prison time after his recent conviction.

A new Redfield & Wilson survey revealed that a majority of voters support a custodial sentence for Hunter Biden following his conviction for illegally purchasing a firearm while under the influence of drugs, as Newsweek reports.

According to the poll, 60% of the surveyed voters favor a prison sentence for Hunter Biden, with 57% of Biden voters sharing this sentiment. Only 21% of voters believe he should not face jail time, while 19% remain undecided on the issue.

Hunter Biden's Conviction and Legal Battle

Hunter Biden was found guilty in June of illegally purchasing a gun while using drugs, having lied about his drug use on a government form during the purchase in May 2018. As a result, Hunter Biden faces up to 25 years in prison, with his sentencing scheduled no later than Oct. 9.

Legal analysts suggest that under federal guidelines, Hunter may not receive a custodial sentence despite the potential severity of his conviction. David Bredin from Bredin Law Firm noted, "Factoring in good behavior, he will be released early as he has no criminal history, and other guidelines are taken into account."

Upcoming Tax Trial in California

In addition to his gun conviction, Hunter Biden is slated to stand trial in California this September for failing to pay $1.4 million in taxes between 2016 and 2019.

This upcoming trial adds another layer of complexity to his legal challenges.

Broader Political Implications and Trump's Accusations

The political ramifications of Hunter Biden's legal trouble extend beyond his own actions. Former President Donald Trump has accused President Joe Biden of weaponizing the Department of Justice against him.

Trump is currently facing 44 federal charges, including the unlawful retention of classified documents and attempts to obstruct the 2020 election results.

Public Opinion on U.S. Justice System

Public perception of the justice system has been skewed, with 58% of voters believing it is being abused for political purposes.

Interestingly, 53% of Biden voters also think the justice system is being misused for political gain.

Trump’s Legal Troubles and Voter Reaction

In addition to the federal charges, Trump was found guilty by a New York jury on May 30 of falsifying business records -- a total of 34 counts. This development has influenced public opinion regarding his 2024 presidential bid, with 34% of Americans stating that the conviction makes them more likely to vote for him.

Conversely, 29% of voters are less inclined to support Trump, while 31% think the verdict increases his chances of winning the election, and 29% believe it diminishes them.

Detailed Poll Methodology

The Redfield & Wilton Strategies poll sampled the opinions of 2,500 registered voters from June 26 to June 28.

The results have a margin of error of ±1.96 percentage points, providing a reliable insight into the current public sentiment regarding Hunter Biden's legal affairs and broader political climate.

Conclusion

Hunter Biden's legal predicaments have certainly captured public attention, with a majority of voters, including those who supported Joe Biden in 2020, advocating for his imprisonment. As the first child of a sitting president to be convicted of a crime, Hunter Biden's case is unprecedented and continues to unfold against a backdrop of intensified political contention and scrutiny of the U.S. justice system.

Simultaneously, ongoing legal and political developments involving Donald Trump underscore the nation's contentious political environment. Both Biden's and Trump's legal battles are likely to influence public opinion and potentially shape the upcoming 2024 presidential election.

The intricacies of these events will undoubtedly continue to evolve, keeping the public and political analysts poised for the next developments in these high-profile cases.
