Israeli mom murdered in front of her daughter by terrorist

 August 24, 2023

An Israeli mother tragically lost her life in a terrorist attack near Hebron, with her young daughter witnessing the horrifying event.

On a fateful day near Hebron, Batsheva Nigri, a 42-year-old preschool teacher from Beit Hagai in Judea, was fatally shot in a terrorist attack. This tragic incident unfolded in front of her 12-year-old daughter, who, by some miracle, remained unscathed. The driver, Aryeh Gottlieb, also from Beit Hagai, sustained serious injuries from multiple gunshots, as reported by the Daily Wire.

Details of the harrowing attack

Initial findings from security forces indicate that the terrorists intercepted the victims' car at an intersection.

They then unleashed over 20 gunshots at close proximity before fleeing towards Hebron. Despite his severe injuries, Gottlieb managed to drive to safety.

Medical teams from United Hatzalah, Magen David Edom, and IDF tried to save Nigri, but she succumbed to her injuries on the spot.

Following an extensive search operation involving the IDF, Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet), and Israel Border Police, two suspects were apprehended the next day.

They confessed to the crime, and the weapon allegedly used in the attack was seized.

Leaders express grief and concern

Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, deeply affected by the incident, offered prayers for the injured and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families.

He pointed to Iran's role in instigating such acts of terror, vowing to combat and triumph over these challenges.

Defense Minister Yoav Galant emphasized the changing dynamics on the ground, attributing them to Iranian funding and weapons proliferation.

He assured the country that Israel would take all necessary measures to safeguard its citizens and hold the perpetrators accountable.

Reactions and aftermath

Israeli President Isaac Herzog expressed his shock and sorrow over the brutal murder of Batsheva Nigri.

He emphasized the nation's resilience, asserting that the enemies' attempts to harm Israel would fail.

Tragically, this wasn't the only terrorist act that week. Another attack in Huwara in Samaria saw a father and son killed while waiting for their car to be repaired. The culprits behind this attack remain at large.

Responses from various factions

Hamas officials openly celebrated these heinous acts. Their spokesperson lauded the attacker in Huwara, attributing the act to their ongoing commitment to resist and protect their people.

Ismail Radwan, a senior Hamas official, and Fatah both praised the Hebron attack. Disturbingly, images of Arabs distributing sweets in celebration of the attack circulated online.

Several Israeli leaders advocated for stricter measures to prevent future incidents.

Calls for enhanced checkpoints in Judea and Samaria grew louder, with leaders emphasizing the need to act swiftly against terrorism.

International reactions and implications

The Biden administration expressed its condolences over the attacks on Israelis.

However, officials drew a parallel between Palestinian terrorist attacks and alleged settler violence.

U.S. Ambassador to the U.N., Linda Thomas-Greenfield, called for de-escalation and enhanced cooperation between Israeli and Palestinian security forces.

She referred to another incident outside the village of Burqa, where a young Palestinian lost his life.

The Israeli involved claimed self-defense, stating he was attacked while tending to his sheep. This incident is still under investigation by Israeli authorities.

2023 has witnessed an alarming rise in terrorist attacks against Israelis.

Yossi Yehoshua, a military correspondent for Yediot Acharonot, highlighted that the number of Israelis killed in terrorist attacks this year has already surpassed the total for 2022.
