Vice President JD Vance just dropped a political bombshell that could shake the halls of Congress.

On Thursday, Vance appeared on Fox News Channel’s Hannity and delivered a scathing critique of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), suggesting the recent government shutdown fiasco might mark the end of Schumer’s long political tenure, as Breitbart reports.

During the interview, Vance didn’t hold back, calling the Democrats’ failed brinksmanship over the shutdown both “disgraceful” and a window into their party’s inner chaos.

Vance Slams Democrat Shutdown Tactics

Host Sean Hannity set the stage by outlining the Democrats’ staggering demands, which reportedly included $1.5 trillion for various programs, such as healthcare for unauthorized migrants and funding for public media outlets like NPR and PBS.

Vance echoed this, pointing out that the Democrats seemed willing to grind the nation to a halt over policies many Americans might find questionable at best.

Behind closed doors, Vance noted, some Democrats admitted their far-left faction’s stance was unreasonable, yet felt powerless to push back against the progressive agenda driving the party.

Schumer Under Fire for Shutdown Role

“Oh, of course, privately, we were having conversations all the time, and frankly, privately, the Democrats would recognize the position of their far left was crazy, but they all feel a little bit like they’re being held hostage by their far left,” Vance said on “Hannity.”

“You said it very well -- Chuck Schumer, this probably ended his career, and he was the person who was fighting more than anybody to keep the government shut down,” he added.

That’s quite the accusation—Schumer as the shutdown’s chief architect, potentially sacrificing his legacy for a battle that Vance believes was doomed from the start.

Far-Left Demands Spark Controversy

Vance didn’t stop there, painting a picture of a Democratic Party beholden to its most extreme voices, unwilling to compromise unless their priorities dominated the incoming Trump administration.

“They were basically saying that we want the far left’s priorities to dominate... and unless that happens, we’re going to set the entire country on fire,” Vance told Hannity, highlighting what he sees as a reckless approach to governance.

It’s a stark image -- Democrats allegedly holding holiday travel and national stability hostage over demands like reversing border policies or funding controversial programs.

Moderate Democrats Save the Day?

Thankfully, according to Vance, a handful of moderate Democrats stepped in to let “reason prevail,” preventing a complete meltdown over the shutdown negotiations.

Still, the episode leaves a bitter taste, as Vance described it as a “revealing moment” for Americans to see where some Democratic Party leaders’ loyalties lie -- not with everyday citizens, but with niche, far-left causes.

Perhaps it’s time for a hard look at whether such brinksmanship serves the public or just a loud minority, especially when the stakes are as high as a functioning government.
