At a recent Michigan campaign rally, Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) pointed out what he sees as a glaring problem with Vice President Kamala Harris' claims about the economy.

Vance slammed Harris for praising economic progress under the current administration, given the recent release of a troubling jobs report showing significant private sector losses, as Breitbart reports.

A Closer Look at Recent Job Market Trends

Vance referenced a report from the Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The release highlighted a reduction of 28,000 jobs in the private sector for the month of October.

This report also detailed a steep drop in manufacturing jobs, with 46,000 positions lost.

Notably, the losses primarily impacted the transportation equipment sector.

Impact of Strikes and Government Hiring Practices

According to the jobs report, the decline in manufacturing jobs, specifically a 44,000 job decrease in transportation equipment manufacturing, was largely due to ongoing strike activities.

While the private sector struggled, the report noted that the government sector saw an increase, adding 40,000 jobs, which aligns with the average monthly gains over the past year.

Breitbart News's John Carney provided further analysis, noting that the overall addition to the U.S. economy was a mere 12,000 jobs in October, pointing out that the significant private sector job loss mirrored occurrences last seen in April 2020.

Vance's Critique of Harris's Economic Policies

“I hate to say it, my friends, it’s not just plans and it’s not just proposals," Vance stated.

Vance added, "We are seeing, in action, the effect of Kamala Harris’s policies."

He expressed concern for Michigan families who are struggling with rising grocery prices while facing job scarcity.

“Did anyone see the jobs report that came out this morning?" Vance asked the crowd.

The GOP VP hopeful continued, "While Kamala Harris goes out there and brags about the economy being great, we’ve got Michigan families who can’t afford the price of groceries, and importantly, over the last month, our country lost 28,000 private sector jobs."

The Broader Economic Picture Under the Biden-Harris Administration

“And — it actually, it gets even worse than that. We lost 46,000 manufacturing jobs," he said.

Vance continued, "This is what happens when you double down on the failed policies, not just of the last four years, but the failed policies of the last forty years."

His remarks emphasized the consequences of longstanding political decisions on the current job market.

"You get less Americans working and more Americans on welfare. You get less self-reliance and more dependence on the government,” he concluded.
