Kamala Harris Debate Earring Conspiracy Sparks Response From Audio Jewelry Company

 September 13, 2024

A new conspiracy theory has surfaced following Vice President Kamala Harris' debate with former President Donald Trump, involving an unusual accusation regarding her choice of jewelry. Critics accuse Harris of wearing Bluetooth-enabled earrings during her 90-minute exchange with Trump, raising questions about whether she received external audio assistance during the debate.

The German startup NOVA, which produces smart audio earrings, has found itself pulled into the controversy as critics claim Harris wore their product, Mail Online reported.

NOVA’s smart earrings resemble the pearl earrings Harris wore, though Harris’ team asserts the earrings were a different set, allegedly from Tiffany’s.

Bluetooth Audio Earring Conspiracy Takes Shape

The theory began circulating on social media shortly after the debate. A prominent alternative news account, The Maverick Approach, shared photos of Harris' earrings and suggested they were secretly NOVA H1 Audio Earrings. The account claimed that the earrings, which include Bluetooth technology, allowed Harris to receive information during the debate, amplifying the claim that “nothing is what it seems” in modern politics.

Supporters of Harris dismissed the conspiracy theory, asserting that the Vice President wore a classic pair of Tiffany's pearl earrings, worth over $2,000. However, the NOVA smart earrings in question also feature a pearl design, fueling speculation from conspiracy theorists.

German Company NOVA Responds to Claims

NOVA, the company at the center of the controversy, has responded to the growing accusations. Malte Iversen, managing director of Icebach Sound, the company that produces NOVA’s smart earrings, spoke out about the incident. In a lighthearted comment, Iversen said, “We do not know whether Mrs. Harris wore one of our products. The resemblance is striking and while our product was not specifically developed for the use at presidential debates, it is nonetheless suited for it."

NOVA neither confirmed nor denied Harris’ alleged use of their product. Iversen seized the opportunity to inject humor into the situation. He even extended an offer to the Trump campaign, joking that the company was working on a male version of their product. Iversen humorously noted that creating a version in Trump's signature color, orange, posed a unique design challenge.

Background on NOVA’s Smart Audio Earrings

NOVA’s H1 Audio Earrings combine Bluetooth technology with elegant jewelry, offering a luxury audio experience. Retailing for approximately $625, these earrings project sound directly into users’ ears without requiring visible headphones or earbuds. Both the tech and fashion industries have taken notice of this technology.

However, NOVA faces a setback unrelated to the debate controversy. The company is entangled in legal issues with a Chinese tech firm over patent breaches. Consequently, NOVA has paused production and is out of stock. Iversen revealed that the company actively seeks investors to ramp up operations and hopes to return to full production soon.

Trump and Harris Clash on Major Issues

While social media focused on the earring controversy, the debate itself featured a heated clash of political positions. Kamala Harris criticized Trump’s handling of economic policy, the 2020 election, and his rally performances. She accused him of undermining democracy and fostering national division.

In response, Trump attacked the Democratic administration on issues of immigration and inflation. He argued that the current economic instability stemmed from poor Democratic policies and claimed that his administration could correct the situation if given another term.

Conspiracy Theory Gains Traction Online

Despite the serious policy discussions during the debate, social media users, especially those leaning right, gave traction to the earring conspiracy theory. Posts from The Maverick Approach, which suggested that Harris received lines through her earrings, became a talking point for many critics of the Vice President.

The account, which has promoted other conspiracy theories in the past, insisted that “there’s a major issue with this debate” and claimed that the alleged use of audio earrings served as further proof of underhanded tactics in political discourse.

Harris Supporters Dismiss the Allegations

Supporters of Kamala Harris quickly dismissed the conspiracy, pointing out that Harris had worn the earrings on multiple occasions before the debate. They emphasized that Tiffany’s designed the earrings and that no evidence supports the claims made by The Maverick Approach or others promoting the theory.

Although the conspiracy theory has attracted attention, no substantial proof has emerged to indicate that Harris used any sort of external audio assistance during the debate.

Conclusion: Controversy Continues Amid Political Battles

As the debate rages on both in political forums and online, NOVA’s smart earrings continue to attract curiosity from conspiracy theorists and tech enthusiasts alike. Malte Iversen’s humorous response to the situation has added a lighthearted tone to an otherwise tense political moment.

Meanwhile, Harris and Trump press on with their campaigns, battling over key issues, while the earring debate remains a bizarre side note in an already contentious election cycle. Although the lasting impact of the conspiracy theory remains uncertain, it has currently given a German startup unexpected attention on the global stage.
