Kamala Harris refuses multiple times to say that there should be limits to abortion -- even up to 40 weeks

 September 11, 2023

Vice President Kamala Harris sidestepped answering direct questions about her stance on potential limitations regarding abortions in a recent interview, as the Daily Wire reported.

Harris Stresses Restoring Roe v. Wade Protections

The discussion occurred between Harris and CBS News' Margaret Brennan on Face The Nation this past Sunday.

Brennan posed the question, "What is it that you believe? I mean, what week of pregnancy should abortion access be cut off?"

Harris responded, "We need to restore the protections of Roe v. Wade. We're not trying to do something new... ."

She went on, "Let me be very clear. From day one, the president has been clear, I have been clear. We need to put back the protections that are in Roe v. Wade into law.

"Since the Supreme Court took it, Congress has the power and ability to pass legislation to put those protections back in law and Joe Biden will sign that bill. So, that is what we want," Harris added.

The Push for Legislative Clarification

Brennan, showing persistence, pushed the vice president for more specificity. The host said she wanted to understand the administration's view on delineating where the rights previously guaranteed by Roe v. Wade would and wouldn't apply, specifically in terms of gestational age.

Brennan pointed out that the initial guidelines established in Roe v. Wade permitted limitations after "anywhere between 20 to 24 weeks," as the New York Post reported.

In response, Harris said, "No, no, no, no, no. We need to put back the protections that are in Roe v. Wade into law."

Harris added, "we're not trying to do something new" and declared that "the vast majority" of the American people are on her side.

She continued, "We're not trying to, we're not trying to do anything that did not exist before June of last year."

Addressing Republican Concerns

During their conversation, Brennan mentioned Republican critiques that claim Democrat policies might permit abortions even right up to the moment of birth.

Harris quickly labeled such assertions as "ridiculous" and stated that such claims confuse the relevant issues at hand.

Harris noted, "I am being precise. We need to put into law the protections of Roe v. Wade. And that is about going back to where we were before the Dobbs decision."

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, roughly 1.3% of abortions nationwide are performed after 21 weeks' gestation.

It's commonly believed that fetal viability is reached around the six-month mark of pregnancy.

The youngest recorded premature baby to survive long-term was born at about 21 weeks into pregnancy.
