Kamala Harris Taps Tim Walz as VP Choice, Earning Praise from Obama, Clinton

 August 7, 2024

Vice President Kamala Harris has announced her choice for the upcoming presidential election ticket, selecting Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate.

This decision has been endorsed by notable figures in the Democratic Party, including former President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, both of whom had previously been in support of Joe Biden's re-election bid.

Harris's choice of Walz, the radical-left governor known for his progressive policies, has already begun to generate significant buzz. Walz, a former U.S. Army non-commissioned officer and avid union supporter, will be formally introduced by Harris at a rally in Philadelphia.

Harris to Introduce Walz in Philadelphia

After the introduction event, Harris and Walz will embark on a tour covering key battleground states. This strategic move aims to garner support in crucial regions as the election approaches.

Barack Obama has been vocal in his approval of Harris’s selection. He described Walz as the "ideal partner" for Harris, praising his extensive experience and commitment to public service.

"Governor Walz doesn’t just have the experience to be vice president, he has the values and the integrity to make us proud," Obama stated.

Obama's Remarks on Walz's Credentials

In his remarks, Obama indirectly addressed former President Donald Trump’s choice for vice president, Sen. J.D. Vance. Obama's endorsement of Walz emphasized his belief that both Harris and Walz share a vision of government that serves all citizens equally.

"That’s what makes him an outstanding governor, and that’s what will make him an even better vice president, ready on day one," Obama added. He also extended his congratulations to Walz’s family.

Walz brings a varied background to the ticket. Before his political career, he served in the National Guard for 24 years and worked as a high school social studies teacher and football coach.

His tenure as governor, which began in 2019, saw him enact numerous progressive policies. Among his achievements, he has facilitated pandemic recovery for families and businesses, established paid family leave, guaranteed abortion rights, and implemented gun safety measures.

Walz's Progressive Achievements Lauded

Hillary Clinton also enthusiastically reacted to Harris’s decision. Expressing her excitement on social media, Clinton highlighted Walz's commitment to social benefits like providing free meals for schoolchildren and implementing paid family leave in Minnesota. "He’ll be an incredible partner to our first woman president. Let’s go win this," she wrote.

The selection of Walz follows Biden's decision to end his candidacy last month.

This move paved the way for Harris to secure her place as the Democratic candidate for president and choose her vice-presidential counterpart. Walz showed his support for Harris promptly after Biden's announcement, further solidifying his place on the ticket.

Tour of Battleground States to Follow

As Harris prepared to introduce Walz in Philadelphia, the campaign gears up for intense canvassing across vital regions. The joint tour aims to amplify their message and policies that they believe will resonate with voters.

The endorsement from high-profile Democrats like Obama and Clinton signals a united front within the party. Their backing not only strengthens the campaign’s position but also highlights the shared values and commitment of Harris and Walz to progressive policies and inclusive governance.

Unity and Shared Vision Emphasized

In the upcoming months, Harris and Walz will focus on galvanizing support and communicating their vision for America's future. The ticket's blend of experience, military service, educational background, and progressive accomplishments is designed to appeal to a wide range of voters.

As the election draws nearer, all eyes will be on their ability to sway undecided voters and solidify their base.

The combination of Harris's historic candidacy as the first woman vice president and Walz's years of leadership in Minnesota could present a formidable duo on which the electorate will have a chance to deliberate.
