Harris Releases Report on State of Her Health

 October 14, 2024

Vice President Kamala Harris recently disclosed details regarding her health, underscoring what she said was a commitment to transparency in medical records.

Harris's medical update was intended by her campaign to create a contrast with former President Donald Trump, who has yet to provide a similar assessment, as National Review reports.

On Saturday, Harris's physician, Dr. Joshua R. Simmons, made public a letter that declared her in "excellent health."

Simmons, who has attended to Harris for three and a half years, stated that she demonstrates both physical and mental resilience necessary for her role in the government.

The letter was reportedly based on information gleaned during Harris's most recent medical examination conducted in April 2024.

What Kamala Harris's Medical Report Reveals

Harris, a 59-year-old, is described as healthy, dealing primarily with seasonal allergies and instances of hives.

Her allergy symptoms are under control with prescribed Allegra, eye drops, and a continuation of allergen immunotherapy, an ongoing treatment for three years. Furthermore, she manages nearsightedness with contact lenses.

The physician's letter noted that Harris’s medical evaluations, including scans and routine bloodwork, showed no significant issues. Her lifestyle choices contribute positively to her health.

She participates in daily vigorous exercise and core strength training while adhering to a beneficial diet plan.

Additional details from Harris's medical history emerged, such as her maternal family history of colon cancer. Additionally, Harris has not undergone surgery since age three, when she had an appendectomy as part of a treatment for intussusception.

Harris Advocates for Healthcare Transparency

Aside from tobacco abstinence and moderate alcohol consumption, Harris's health disclosure was meant to emphasize what she says is her commitment to transparency.

A senior aide to the vice president stated that this release provides an opportunity to highlight what remains undisclosed about 78-year-old Trump’s health status.

In 2023, Trump publicly committed to releasing his medical history, expressing enthusiasm to do so. However, records remain unavailable to the public. His previous campaign in 2016 also lacked such disclosures, continuing a pattern noted by political commentators.

Trump's Health History in Spotlight

Trump's health background includes reports from 2018 that indicated high cholesterol levels, overweight, and a skin condition called rosacea.

While this history was made public by his physician at the time, more recent data has not been shared.

The issue of health transparency in politics remains a contentious topic among political figures and the public. Harris's recent act of releasing her medical records places pressure on Trump, whose commitment to similar exposure remains unfulfilled.

In summary, Vice President Kamala Harris's decision to publish a detailed medical report stands in contrast to Trump's yet undisclosed health records, presenting what her campaign says is a stark difference in health transparency between the two public figures.

Harris, maintaining her health through an active lifestyle and necessary medical care, seeks to set a precedent in public health disclosure during this election cycle.
