King Charles moves Andrew to private Sandringham retreat amid Epstein fallout

 November 3, 2025

Hold onto your crowns, folks -- King Charles III is sending his younger brother, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, packing from the plush Royal Lodge to a quieter corner of the Sandringham estate, as Breitbart reports.

In a decisive move, Charles is relocating the 65-year-old Andrew from his long-time home at Windsor Castle’s Royal Lodge to a private property on the Sandringham estate in eastern England, aiming to shield the monarchy from lingering controversies tied to Andrew’s past association with Jeffrey Epstein.

Andrew has called the 30-room Royal Lodge home for over two decades, signing a 75-year lease with the Crown Estate back in 2003.

From Royal Lodge to Remote Retreat

He even poured 7.5 million pounds -- nearly $10 million -- into sprucing up the place, paying a symbolic “peppercorn” rent annually, yet now finds himself on the move.

The scandals surrounding Andrew’s ties to Epstein, who took his own life in prison in August 2019 while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges, have cast a long shadow over the royal family.

Charles, clearly fed up with the public scrutiny, seems to be saying enough is enough, opting for a location that’s not an official royal residence but rather part of his personal holdings at Sandringham.

Timing the Move Around Christmas

The Sandringham estate, a private retreat for British monarchs since Queen Victoria’s purchase in 1862 for her son, the future Edward VII, offers several potential new homes for Andrew, from Wood Farm—once favored by Queen Elizabeth II -- to the quaint Gardens House, a former holiday rental.

Other options include Park House, the childhood home of Diana, Princess of Wales, York Cottage, once considered for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, or even The Folly, a cozy hunting lodge turned tea spot.

But don’t expect Andrew to pack up overnight; “As everyone knows, moving house is an ordeal at the best of times, regardless of the size of the dwelling,” and this transition is no exception.

Sorting Through a Royal Mess

Indeed, “It’s certainly going to take Andrew, and whoever he can get to help him, a fair chunk of time to go through his belongings, decide what to take, give to charity or what to toss.”

The timing couldn’t be more strategic, with Christmas on the horizon, ensuring Andrew stays out of the spotlight during high-profile events like the royal family’s annual Christmas Day visit to St. Mary Magdalene church on the Sandringham grounds.

The plan is for Andrew to relocate after the festive season, giving Charles a chance to keep family gatherings free from awkward headlines while still funding the move and an annual stipend from his private resources, not taxpayer money.

Public Scrutiny Still Looms Large

Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, who has shared Royal Lodge with him since 2008, won’t be joining him at Sandringham on the king’s dime, marking a clear boundary in this royal reshuffle.

While Andrew denies any wrongdoing in his friendship with Epstein, including allegations from Virginia Roberts Giuffre about improper conduct when she was 17, the move to a remote estate won’t likely silence the ongoing media buzz in both the U.K. and U.S.

Let’s be frank: banishing Andrew to Sandringham might lower the temperature with the public, but it’s hardly a fortress against scrutiny; if Charles thinks this is the end of the chatter, he might need a stronger tea than they serve at The Folly.
