Kyle Kennedy, granddaughter of Robert F. Kennedy and Ethel Kennedy, has died at 42 in Massachusetts after years of health struggles following a severe spinal cord injury.

Fox News reported that Kennedy died Sept. 21 at her Massachusetts home, citing an obituary from Burke Funeral Homes. The cause of death remains pending, People said.

She was the daughter of Michael Kennedy and Victoria Gifford Kennedy, and part of one of America’s most watched political families. Funeral services were held privately.

Born in Washington, D.C., on July 6, 1984, she spent much of her childhood in Cohasset, Massachusetts. She attended Milton Academy, then earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Georgetown University.

She later completed a master of science in early education at Pace University and a master of education in education policy and management at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Public losses in political life often draw wide notice, as when Nancy Kassebaum Baker died at 94 after a trailblazing Senate career.

Kennedy began her career with Teach for America and taught for two years in New York City public schools. She pressed for fairer elementary education and charter schools, worked with education technology firms on curriculum, and coached primary school teachers.

Marathon finish, then a life-changing injury

In 2019 she finished the Boston Marathon. The next year she suffered a severe spinal cord injury that left her with long-term paralysis and major health obstacles.

After the injury she turned to disability rights. She testified at the Massachusetts State House against healthcare discrimination facing people living with disabilities. High-profile death news can also spark online noise, the kind Stella Parton flagged after false AI claims spread in another celebrity loss.

Family photos and captions place her at Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights events, including a 2013 Ripple of Hope Awards dinner in New York with Ethel Kennedy, Robert Kennedy Jr., and Kerry Kennedy. A later caption shows her speaking onstage at the awards.

Readers who follow Washington fights over nominations and confirmations, including coverage of how Trump weighed the Blanche AG pick, will recognize the same public glare that surrounds famous political surnames. Kennedy’s own record stayed rooted in classrooms, coaching, and disability advocacy rather than elective office.

Family left behind after private rites

She was preceded in death by her father, Michael Kennedy, in 1997, and by an infant daughter, Josie. She is survived by sons Conor, 12, and Declan, 10; ex-husband Liam; mother Victoria Gifford Kennedy; brother Michael and his family; and sister Rory and her family. Victoria is the daughter of Frank Gifford and Maxine Avis Ewart and has been described as Kathie Lee Gifford’s stepdaughter.

Her path ran from elite schools and city classrooms to a marathon finish line, then to paralysis, State House testimony, and a quiet farewell at 42. Grit after hard injury still matters more than a famous last name.
