Lara Trump Claims Father-in-Law's Legal Battles Are Unfavorably Affecting Democrats

 May 6, 2024

Lara Trump has suggested that the ongoing criminal trial of Donald Trump in New York is not only failing to curb his political momentum but is actually bolstering it through increased Republican fundraising efforts.

The former president's daughter-in-law, who is also a co-chairwoman of the Republican National Committee, has voiced opinions that the Democrats had strategically timed the trial to impact Donald Trump's campaign negatively, but that those efforts have backfired, as the Washington Examiner reports.

Fundraising Flourishes Amidst Trial Challenges

Contrary to expectations, the trial's commencement has coincided with a noticeable increase in fundraising for the Republican National Committee (RNC). The first day of jury selection alone spurred a $1.5 million boost in contributions.

The momentum did not stop there. Within just three days of the trial, fundraising doubled, continuing to climb in the subsequent days.

This surge in contributions reflects a robust support base for Trump, who has been able to draw significant financial backing despite his legal entanglements.

In the month of April, as the trial progressed, the RNC and Trump’s campaign jointly announced an impressive total of $76 million in raised funds, with contributions averaging below $30 each.

This substantial financial backing followed a record-breaking single political fundraiser hosted by Trump earlier in the month, which netted $50.5 million.

Lara Trump Critiques Democrats' Strategy

Lara Trump has described these fundraising achievements as indicative of a backlash against what she calls "lawfare" -- legal actions she claims are intended to interfere with electoral processes.

She believes these efforts are backfiring, as demonstrated by the robust financial support for the Trump campaign.

"Democrats intended the trial’s timing 'by design,'” Lara Trump stated, suggesting a deliberate strategy to limit Donald Trump's public presence and campaign activities.

She likened the Democrats' strategy to the classic cartoon chase between Sylvester the Cat and Tweety Bird, where the cat's efforts invariably fail, suggesting a similar outcome for the Democrats' political strategies.

Public Response Reflects Widespread Support

“That means the people of this country understand what’s at stake, they understand what is happening to this man, this ‘lawfare’ that is being waged against him in an attempt to interfere in an election, and they are fighting back,” Lara Trump elaborated on the public's financial support.

She also highlighted the impressive April fundraising figures: “At the RNC and Trump campaign, we announced our April fundraising exceeded our expectations. We raised $76 million. And the beauty of that is the average donation, Maria, is under $30.”

While the Trump campaign has been transparent about its financial achievements, the Biden campaign has yet to release its fundraising figures for the same period.

Summary of Fundraising Amid Legal Struggles

Donald Trump's ongoing trial in New York has coincided with a significant increase in fundraising for his campaign, suggesting strong support despite his legal challenges.

This financial support has been bolstered by record-breaking fundraising events and continuous donations from a wide base of supporters, reflecting a possible public pushback against the perceived politicization of legal challenges.

In summary, the timing and impact of Donald Trump's trial have sparked a substantial fundraising campaign that suggests voter support may be solidifying rather than waning in the face of legal adversities.
