Rep. Lauren Boebert’s son arrested in string of thefts

 February 29, 2024

The eldest son of Congresswoman Lauren Boebert, a Republican from Colorado, was taken into custody this week by the police in Rifle, Colorado.

The arrest came after reports detailing a series of thefts in the area, as Fox News reported.

Details of the Charges

Tyler Jay Boebert, 18, finds himself facing serious legal challenges, with authorities charging him with five felony counts and numerous misdemeanor violations.

The charges include the illegal possession of identification documents from several individuals, conspiracy to commit a felony, and over fifteen additional misdemeanors and petty offenses.

Details of the charges were revealed in a statement issued by the Rifle Police Department.

Authorities have emphasized that the investigation is active and ongoing and have reminded members of the public that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven otherwise in a court of law.

Current records indicate that the Garfield County Sheriff's Office is holding Tyler Boebert, although details regarding the bond have not been disclosed.

Family Responses and Background

In response to inquiries, Rep. Boebert expressed her deep love and concern for her son, acknowledging the public and personal challenges he has faced.

She said, "It breaks my heart to see my child struggling and, in this situation, especially when he has been provided multiple opportunities to get his life on track."

The lawmaker added, "I will never give up on him and I will continue to be there for him."

"As an adult and father, Tyler will take responsibility for his actions and should be held accountable for poor decisions just like any other citizen" she went on.

Last year, Boebert, aged 37, revealed that her son Tyler, then 17, had fathered a baby boy with his girlfriend, thus making her a grandmother.

The Boebert family has had previous encounters with law enforcement, including an incident involving Rep. Boebert's ex-husband Jayson Boebert -- who is also Tyler's father -- which resulted in charges of his own earlier this year.

The complexities of the family's situation were further highlighted by a restraining order Rep. Boebert obtained against Jayson, amidst allegations of threats and a physical altercation involving their son.

Political Context

Rep. Boebert, serving her second term and known for her vocal stance on a range of issues, announced a significant political move at the end of last year.

She declared her intention to switch districts, aiming to represent a different part of Colorado in the upcoming election.

This move comes as the current representative of the 4th Congressional District, Republican Rep. Ken Buck, announced his retirement.
