Man arrested after toddler found with lethal dose of narcotic in his system, police say

An Arizona man has been taken into custody following the tragic death of a toddler who had traces of narcotics in his bloodstream, as Fox News reported.

Roderick Begay, 37, a resident of Surprise, Arizona, is now facing a host of serious criminal charges

The counts against Begay reportedly include manslaughter, child abuse, and endangerment, according to local law enforcement reports.

FOX 10 in Phoenix further disclosed that Begay had also charged on grounds related to weapons possession, as he was already prohibited from possessing such items.

Emergency Call Leads to Grim Discovery

Officials from the Surprise Police Department stated that the scenario began to unfold when they responded to an emergency call.

The contact with dispatchers was made in regard to a one-year-old child who was discovered unresponsive on Saturday.

Immediate efforts were made to revive the young child.

However, he was declared deceased at a nearby hospital at around 2 a.m. the following day.

Upon further medical examination, the hospital personnel detected the presence of narcotics in the child's system.

That finding is what led to the subsequent arrest of Begay.

Unanswered Questions

The specific relationship between Begay and the deceased child remains undisclosed by the police.

Whether Begay was the toddler's father or had another familial connection to the child has not been made public.

The Surprise Police Department spoke about the ongoing nature of the investigation.

Officials stated:

This tragic investigation is ongoing, and we will not release the name of the child at this time.

The statement added:

We do not expect any further updates until results of the Medical Examiner's' report are known.

Following his arrest, Begay was processed and transferred to Maricopa County Jail.

Law enforcement investigation into this disturbing case remains ongoing.
