Martin Lawrence, 59, Addresses Health Speculation After Frail Public Appearance

 June 6, 2024

Longtime actor Martin Lawrence assured fans that his health is fine after speculation arose during the press tour for the upcoming film, Bad Boys 4.

The well-known Hollywood figure and co-star Will Smith addressed the concerns during an interview on June 4, dismissing rumors about Lawrence's health, as the Daily Mail reports.

Speculation about Lawrence's health began when he appeared unsteady at the Los Angeles premiere of the aforementioned film on May 30.

Smith was seen leading an unsteady Lawrence across a bus, which immediately sparked health concerns among fans. This led to numerous rumors circulating online about the comedian's well-being.

Lawrence Responds to Health Concerns

To address these rumors, Lawrence and Smith appeared on Hot 97's Ebro in the Morning on June 4.

During the interview, host Ebro Darden asked Lawrence directly about the internet speculation regarding his health. Lawrence lightened the mood by joking about being taken aback by the large crowds at the event.

"I was like, 'Oh, this is rock concert stuff,'" Lawrence quipped. "What the hell is going on? [This is] for a movie?" Despite the humor, Lawrence made sure to reassure his fans that he is in good health.

"I'm fine. I'm in God's hands. I'm blessed. You know, I'm glad to be waking up every day. I'm all good. No need for people to be concerned," he stated firmly. He reiterated that he is "healthy as hell" and dismissed the rumors outright.

History of Health Issues Addressed

While addressing the current concerns, it was noted that Lawrence has had past health issues. In 1996, he was diagnosed with exhaustion and dehydration, and in 1999, he slipped into a three-day coma due to heat exhaustion. These incidents had already been a part of Lawrence's public narrative but were not indicative of his current health status.

Lawrence and Smith have been staples of the Bad Boys franchise since its inception. The duo debuted as Detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett in Bad Boys (1995), and reprised their roles in subsequent sequels, Bad Boys II (2003) and Bad Boys for Life (2020).

Development and Production of Bad Boys 4

The development of the fourth installment began shortly after the release of the third movie.

In February 2023, Will Smith confirmed their return for the new movie, with directors El Arbi and Fallah also returning. Filming commenced in April 2023 in locations including Atlanta, Georgia, and Miami, Florida.

However, the production faced challenges as it was temporarily suspended in July due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. The suspension lasted until Nov. 9, 2023, when the strike ended. Production then resumed in the new year and concluded on March 4 in Miami.

The highly anticipated Bad Boys: Ride or Die is set to hit theaters on Friday, June 6. Fans of the franchise are eagerly awaiting the next chapter in the adventures of Detectives Lowrey and Burnett.

To summarize, Martin Lawrence has publicly addressed and dismissed the recent health rumors circulating online. He reassured fans during an interview on June 4, stating he is healthy and blessed.

Despite his past health issues, Lawrence emphasized that he is currently doing just fine.
