Meghan Markle video was bid to steal spotlight from king’s coronation, report says

 May 3, 2023

The Lakers-Grizzlies playoff game was apparently the Royal couple's destination of choice for a date night last week.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were picked up by the camera in a crowd shot at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The Duchess leaned in a bit closer to the Prince, snuggled up to him and smiled as the camera captured the moment, according to Today.

Later in the game, the couple was also captured on the Jumbotron, smiling and laughing for the camera, according to the New York Post.

Harry grinned at her and seemed to lean over for an attempted smooch, but Meghan giggled, blocked him with one hand and gently resisted with the other placed on his upper arm.

Harry continued grinning and looked back out at the game happening in the arena.

Meghan Accused of Stealing Attention from Coronation

With the coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla coming up on Saturday, speculations and accusations have been flying about Meghan trying to steal attention away from her father-in-law’s big day.

Since the game was only about a week shy of the coronation event, the couple's timing for making such a public appearance, as well as Meghan's behavior, are looked on by many in England as being some kind of publicity stunt for Meghan to enjoy some time in the spotlight since she won't be attending the coronation, according to the Daily Mail.

The three day event will include a concert at Windsor Castle and a volunteer day, but but it's expected that Prince Harry will only be present for the crowing ceremony.

"Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that The Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on 6th May. The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet," they said in the statement, according to People.

Brits Pleased Meghan is Staying Home

Mainstream media has indicated that the Brits are "rejoicing" about the fact that the Duchess has decided against attending the coronation, according to the New York Post.

Though she was invited, along with Prince Harry, the birthday of their son, Prince Archie, falls on the same day as the coronation.

The celebration of his birthday is being widely circulated as the reason she declined the invitation to the coronation, according to People.

May 6th marks his fourth birthday. He also has a 22-month-old sister, Princess Lilibet.

Excitement at the Palace as Coronation Approaches

There was a bit of excitement at the palace on Tuesday, the night before the rehearsal for the coronation, because of a suspected gunman who reportedly threw shotgun cartridges into the palace grounds, according to the Independent.

He was searched by police and arrested for suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon when they found he was carrying a knife, though a gun wasn't found.

The man also reportedly had a "suspicious bag" and so police carried out a controlled explosion.

The coronation rehearsal the next day moved forward as planned, and preparations have continued as scheduled.
