49ers star McCaffrey and Culpo announce baby boy Roman Augustus

San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey and wife Olivia Culpo have welcomed their second child, a boy named Roman Augustus, after an unplanned pregnancy close on the heels of their first.

Culpo shared the news in a Saturday Instagram post, revealing the baby’s name and his September 29 birthday, according to a Daily Mail report. Slides showed the couple holding the newborn, Roman meeting older sister Colette, and Culpo preparing for a C-section delivery.

The former Miss Universe and the three-time All-Pro now have two children under one roof less than a year and a half after their Rhode Island wedding in June 2024. Colette arrived in July 2025. Roman followed far sooner than either parent expected.

Pregnancy arrived before Culpo had fully recovered

Culpo has been candid that the second pregnancy caught her off guard. She realized she was already four months along just six months after giving birth to Colette, and she was still healing from her prior C-section.

In a May TikTok, she described the shock in plain terms.

"I did not think that this was going to happen the way that it did. I am so fortunate to be able to bring another child into the world. Few things that have been running through my mind, 'cause I just really didn't plan on this at all.... Well, I hope that this baby is healthy."

She later admitted the timing left her scrambling. "In the beginning, I was like, 'Oh, my God, can I even do this? Is this allowed? Like, what's gonna happen?'" Culpo also said she wished she had planned better and noted she was "definitely not totally healed" from the earlier surgery.

Public figures balance family news and work demands in different ways, from JD Vance’s choice to skip paternity leave to parents who step back for home life. Culpo’s account stayed focused on gratitude and health.

McCaffrey calls fatherhood the biggest blessing

McCaffrey, in his 10th NFL season, has spoken warmly about coming home to his daughter after hard days at work. In February remarks to Us Magazine, he put it simply.

"It's the best, man. Good day or bad day, you come home and seeing her smile takes all the pressure off. It takes all the worries of life away. It's been the biggest blessing in our life."

He also said watching Culpo become a mother has been rewarding, even when football seasons leave little room to breathe. Colette’s birth came right before training camp, and he played through the full grind that followed.

"Watching Olivia become a mom has been so cool. We had [Colette] in July, which was right before training camp so I was kind of in go-mode and went through the whole season. There's challenges that come with that. So, to now take a breath and be able to be a dad has been really, really fun."

Culpo has praised his grounding influence and pointed to his parents, Lisa and former NFL wideout Ed McCaffrey, a three-time Super Bowl champion, as a strong example. "I always knew he would be a really good dad because he's just a really good person."

Family priorities surface often in public life, whether a White House aide steps aside to focus on raising a child or parents describe ordinary milestones years after high-profile careers take over.

Football success meets a fuller home life

On the field, McCaffrey remains central to San Francisco’s attack. In the 2025 season he posted 1,202 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns, plus 924 receiving yards and seven more scores, while appearing in all 17 games. The 49ers fell to the Seahawks in the Divisional Round. This year the team opened 4-0, with McCaffrey already at 340 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns.

Culpo has said a baby at home changes the emotional weather after losses. Win or lose, someone still needs you. That perspective matters in a violent sport where she watches for the signs he is healthy enough to keep chasing his goals.

Other public voices have framed motherhood and fertility in highly personal terms, from Michelle Obama’s memories of ordinary moments with her daughters to high-profile discussions of reproductive timing. Culpo’s version stayed practical: surprise, recovery, and thanks for a healthy child.

Reproductive choices and private family decisions keep drawing attention when famous women discuss them openly, including cases where private medical steps become public storylines. Culpo’s posts kept the focus on the baby and the household that just got larger.

Roman Augustus now has a big sister, two parents still early in marriage, and a father in the thick of another NFL season. The name nods, at least in passing commentary, toward classical history; the couple has not offered a detailed public explanation beyond the announcement itself.

Steady families still look like the point, not the press cycle that surrounds them.
