Michelle Obama's Silence On Biden... Nancy Pelosi's Tension With Harris... Inside The Drama At The DNC: Emily Goodin Unveils The Inner Conflict

 August 27, 2024

Former President Joe Biden visibly fatigued after the Democratic National Convention, signaling a significant shift in the party's dynamics, Mail Online reported.

Early last Tuesday morning, Joe Biden arrived in California aboard Air Force One after a week-long retreat at a vast Santa Barbara ranch. The scene was poignant, with Biden appearing visibly shaken as he disembarked the aircraft following nearly 24 hours without sleep.

As Biden carefully navigated the steps of Air Force One, he required the assistance of a Secret Service agent to make his way to an awaiting SUV. Jill Biden, the First Lady, looked on with evident concern for her husband's well-being.

Biden's Exhausting Return from the Democratic National Convention

Last Monday, Biden traveled to Chicago to deliver a farewell speech at the Democratic National Convention, symbolically passing the torch to Vice President Kamala Harris as the new Democratic presidential candidate.

Biden's speech was delayed to after midnight due to a crowded schedule, causing most of the country to miss the live broadcast. The convention organizers cut a video tribute and a performance by James Taylor to accommodate Biden’s appearance, which was briefly introduced by Jill Biden and their daughter Ashley.

Nancy Pelosi's Influence on Biden's Political Future

Tensions within the Democratic Party were evident with Nancy Pelosi threatening to go public about Biden’s candidacy, leading to his withdrawal and endorsement of Harris.

Pelosi’s move damaged her long-standing friendship with the Bidens. Biden’s endorsement of Harris countered Pelosi’s push for an open convention, allowing more candidates to compete for the nomination.

Biden has not spoken to Pelosi since his withdrawal, reflecting their strained relations.

The Obamas and the Democratic National Convention

Michelle Obama initially withheld her support for Biden, only confirming her DNC appearance after his withdrawal. While Barack Obama publicly supported Biden, calling him his "brother," Michelle avoided mentioning him in her speech, seen as subtle distancing.

George Clooney's call for Biden to step down and Barack Obama's preference for Hillary Clinton in 2016 added to Biden's feelings of betrayal within the party.

Harris's Campaign Moves Forward Amid Party Struggles

While the Obamas spoke at the DNC, Kamala Harris held a campaign rally in Milwaukee, stepping forward as the party's new leader and potential future president.

After Harris's DNC speech, Barack Obama tweeted his strong endorsement: "[Harris] represents the best of America. Let's get to work." This was crucial in solidifying Harris's position within the party and among voters.

The Democratic Party is shifting, with old alliances tested and new leaders emerging, as Biden's departure marks a pivotal moment of personal and political transitions.
