Trump Discusses Family Safety, Upcoming VP Debate in Wake of Assassination Attempt

 September 23, 2024

In a recent interview with Fox News host Brian Kilmeade, former President Donald Trump expressed his growing concerns for the safety of his family following two recent assassination attempts, as well as issues surrounding illegal immigration and the upcoming vice-presidential debate.

Speaking candidly, Trump admitted that he worries about his family's safety but refrains from discussing the situation publicly, as Fox News reports.

The interview, which aired on Fox’s One Nation Saturday night, covered a wide range of topics, including the state of the country under the Biden administration and Trump’s expectations for the Oct. 1 debate between Sen. JD Vance and Gov. Tim Walz.

During the interview, Kilmeade asked Trump whether he was concerned about the safety of his family in light of the recent assassination attempts.

Trump acknowledged the reality of the threats, saying, “I don’t talk about it, but I do. I have to worry about family. I have to worry about everybody." He expanded his concerns beyond his immediate family, highlighting the broader risks for people close to him.

Trump Criticizes Biden Administration on Illegal Immigration

Transitioning from personal safety, Trump criticized the Biden administration, particularly Vice President Kamala Harris, for what he described as a national crisis related to illegal immigration. According to Trump, the current administration has allowed millions of undocumented individuals, including those with criminal backgrounds, to flood into the country.

Trump went on to describe the effects of this migration on major cities like New York, stating that illegal immigrants are taking over public spaces, including parks.

He voiced his frustration about the impact this influx has had on the local population, particularly U.S. veterans. “They take over our parks. Look at New York -- you can’t play Little League baseball anymore," Trump remarked. He expressed dismay that, in his view, illegal immigrants in New York are receiving better treatment than American veterans.

Throughout the interview, Trump returned repeatedly to his concerns about illegal immigration, calling it one of the country's most pressing issues under the current administration.

Trump Previews VP Debate Between Vance and Walz

Looking ahead to the upcoming vice-presidential debate between his running mate, Sen. JD Vance, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Trump predicted a tough challenge for Vance but expressed confidence in his ability to handle the situation. The debate, set for Oct. 1, will be moderated by CBS News anchors Margaret Brennan and Norah O'Donnell.

Despite his confidence in Vance, Trump voiced doubts about the fairness of the debate, suggesting that Vance might not receive a level playing field. "He won’t get a fair shot," Trump said, though he added that Vance would manage the situation well, saying, “But he will handle it very good.”

Trump praised Vance for his toughness, intelligence, and patriotism, highlighting his running mate's ability to connect with voters. “I think he’s done great. People are really liking him. He’s tough, smart, he loves our country," Trump told Kilmeade.

Safety Remains a Priority for Trump Amid Political Tensions

As the interview continued, Trump returned to the topic of safety, reinforcing the seriousness with which he views the threats to those around him.

He even extended his concerns to Kilmeade, telling the host, "I worry about you." These remarks, in the context of two recent assassination attempts, highlighted the ongoing tension surrounding Trump's campaign and public appearances.

The interview showcased Trump’s broader concerns for the country, focusing on illegal immigration, public safety, and his continued political efforts.

As the 2024 election cycle intensifies, with debates and political events on the horizon, Trump’s comments about family safety and his vice-presidential running mate’s upcoming debate offered a glimpse into his current priorities and anxieties.

The full interview aired on Fox News at 9 p.m. on Saturday, providing viewers with an in-depth look at Trump's thoughts on the current state of affairs, both personal and political.

As the campaign continues, the former president remains focused on the key issues that he believes will shape the future of the country.
