Florida man Thomas Mosley has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of his two-year-old son and the child's mother, reported the Daily Mail.

What Happened?

Mosley (21) stands accused of stabbing 20-year-old Pashun Jeffrey over 100 times before putting his son, Taylen Mosley, in a lake in the Saint Petersburg area. The child's remains were found inside an alligator.

The murders reportedly happened after the family had celebrated Thomas Mosley's birthday.

Mosley and Jeffrey were not in a relationship at the time of the murders.

The authorities discovered Jeffrey's body in a bloody scene at her apartment on Thursday afternoon.

Emergency services then staged a large-scale search operation for Taylen Mosley, including dive teams and drone searches, reported ABC News.

They eventually discovered his body approximately 10 miles from his mother's home. The authorities had to shoot the alligator to access the child's remains and later euthanized the animal.

It's not clear at this point what the cause of the child's initial death was.

Young Taylen celebrated his second birthday less than three weeks before his death.

Mosley reportedly had to receive treatment for lacerations on his arms and hands that were consistent with a knife attack. He's currently being held in Pinellas County Jail.

Neighbors of Pashun Jeffrey reported hearing a lot of commotion around the time of the stabbing, but did not contact police.

Jeffrey's mother contacted the manager of the apartment complex after not hearing from her daughter for more than a day.

At that point, staff at the complex investigated and found Jeffrey's body in the bathroom of her apartment.

Thomas Mosley arrived at his mother's house on the night of the murders, then checked himself into a hospital where he stayed for the night.

According to ABC, Mosley has not been cooperative with police investigations of the murders.

Tributes have poured in for the deceased mother and child since the emergence of this story. Those who were close to Jeffrey described her as a hard-working single mother.
