Mystery Unfolds As Young Virginia Woman Found Deceased in Maine

 September 8, 2024

The serene town of Dayton, Maine, is grappling with a disturbing discovery -- a 23-year-old Virginia woman found deceased in her vehicle.

Autumn Danielle Cleveland, known to friends and family as a devoted Taylor Swift fan, was located lifeless in her car, just days after her family reported her missing, sparking an investigation by state police, as the Daily Mail reports.

Originally from Virginia, Autumn had recently embarked on a new chapter in her life by moving to Maine. She checked out of her rental home on the morning she vanished.

Her last known communications were with her immediate family members on the day she disappeared. This information has led investigators to delve deeper into the hours leading up to her absence.

Autumn’s vehicle, a blue 2018 Mazda CX5, was found in Dayton, a quiet area roughly 25 miles southwest of Portland.

Community Shocked by Sudden Tragedy

The local authorities were alerted to her presence by a 911 call around 3:30 pm on Monday, reporting a deceased woman in a car near Goodwins Mills Road, fitting Autumn's description.

The Major Crime Unit South of the State Police is handling the investigation. They have indicated that while her death is a point of concern, it does not pose an immediate threat to the public.

An autopsy is scheduled to ascertain the precise cause and manner of Autumn's death, details of which are eagerly awaited by the community and her family.

Autumn Cleveland Remembered Fondly

Described by her family as shy, soft-spoken, and anxious, Autumn was known to have a small circle of close friends and a passion for Taylor Swift’s music, cats, and chocolates.

Her selfless nature often shone through, especially during activities she cherished like hiking and sharing ice cream post-hike, a routine she enjoyed with her loved ones.

Before her sudden move to Maine, she had traversed the country with her father, an experience filled with bonding and exploration.

Family and Friends Mourn the Loss

Her family is devastated by the loss, remembering her as a person who, despite her anxiety, put others first.

Her sister Brooke remarked on Autumn’s enduring empathy, "It wouldn’t matter if she was having the worst day ever, if somebody else was having a slightly bad day she would make sure to be there for them."

Renee Cleveland, Autumn's mother, shared insights into her daughter's unique ways of expressing love, "When she picked you, when she loved you, family or otherwise, there wasn’t any other love like hers."

Autumn had plans to return to Virginia around the holidays for her birthday and to go wedding dress shopping with her sister, making her untimely death even more poignant.

Community Support Through Hard Times

A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist Autumn's family with expenses during this challenging time. Organized by family friend Christy Clements, it has raised nearly $1,900 of a $20,000 goal.

Christy expressed gratitude towards the community's support, "As the family navigates through this difficult time, your generosity will help to ease the burden of expenses and allow them to grieve without worry."

The investigation continues as everyone who knew Autumn awaits answers, hoping for some solace in understanding what led to such a tragic end to a young life full of promise.
