Nancy Pelosi makes joke of Trump’s cognitive ability, then confuses him with Biden

 January 25, 2024

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) declined to engage in a discussion about former President Donald Trump's "cognitive disorders" on Tuesday but briefly confused President Joe Biden with the former commander in chief.

During an interview on MSNBC with Rachel Maddow, the host inquired about Trump's recent criticism of the former speaker's response to the events of Jan. 6 in which he appeared to reference GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley mistakenly.

Maddow said, "We've heard what Nikki Haley thought about that, that confusion, that mistake by Donald Trump. But I don't know what you thought about it, and I'm curious."

Pelosi mentioned she would not dwell extensively on Trump's alleged "cognitive disorders," however, she soon experienced a minor lapse herself.

The former speaker remarked, "Well, let me just say, I'm not going to spend too much time on Donald Trump's cognitive disorders," Fox News reported.

She continued, "He tried to say that Nikki Haley did not allow the National Guard to come, but it was Nancy Pelosi. It was nobody. It was Joe — it was Donald Trump. He knows, and you know, that Mitch McConnell, Chuck Schumer, and I begged for hours for the National Guard to come."

The former speaker expressed her concern over Trump's accusations, emphasizing that it is the president, not Congress, who has the authority to deploy the National Guard. She also pointed out Trump's frequent misrepresentations in his statements.

Trump's Confusion and Accusations

While speaking in New Hampshire on Friday, Trump appeared to confuse Pelosi with his former United Nations ambassador, Nikki Haley.

He inaccurately accused Haley of being responsible for the security breakdown on Jan. 6, 2021.

Trump has also previously blamed Pelosi for rejecting National Guard assistance before the riot.

He claimed, "Nikki Haley, Nikki Haley, you know, they — did you know they destroyed all the information and all of the evidence. Everything. Deleted and destroyed all of it, all of it, because of lots of things, like Nikki Haley is in charge of security."

Trump added, "We offered 10,000 people, soldiers, National Guard. So whatever they want, they turned it down. They don't want to talk about that. These are very dishonest people,"

Pelosi's Views on the Biden-Harris Ticket and Trump

Pelosi commended Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, along with their campaign team, as they gear up for the upcoming election year.

Referring back to Trump, Pelosi stated, "When he lies, I mean, he's a constant liar. But when he lies, sometimes, you have to listen to him."

She criticized Trump's statements against the Affordable Care Act and emphasized the importance of moving beyond Trump's "dysfunction" and focusing on mobilizing voters.

Trump and Haley in the GOP Primary

The GOP primary in New Hampshire saw Trump being projected as the winner. Trump expressed his gratitude for the result, stating, "I'm very honored by the result."

Haley, acknowledging Trump's victory, reminded her supporters that the race was still ongoing. She stated, "New Hampshire is first in the nation. It is not last in the nation. This race is far from over."
