A "swatting" incident occurred at the South Carolina home of Nikki Haley, a prominent contender in the Republican presidential race. 

An anonymous caller misled emergency services by falsely claiming to have harmed his girlfriend and threatened self-harm at Haley's residence. 

The situation unfolded on Dec. 30 in Kiawah Island, a gated community known for its affluence, as the Daily Mail reported.

Local authorities, upon arriving, quickly deduced the call was a hoax. Haley and her family were not on the island at the time of the incident. 

An Uptick in Political Harassment

This distressing event is part of a broader recent wave of intimidation tactics targeting political figures, judges, and election officials.

Since the 2020 election, there has been an increase in violent threats, bomb scares, and swatting incidents.
