A mother, whose identity remains undisclosed, took the lives of her three children and later committed suicide after a police standoff.

The incident occurred in Verdigris, Oklahoma, on the afternoon of July 20, as the Daily Wire reported.

Chilling Silence during the Standoff

Verdigris Police Department (VPD) officers were alerted to the scene by the fireworks display near a local residence.

As per the official account provided by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, on reaching the scene, police found an armed woman who had barricaded herself and her children inside the house.

Despite repeated attempts by a negotiator to communicate with the woman over three hours, there was no response from within the house.

Verdigris Police Chief Jack Shackelford expressed his despair, remarking how the house remained silent with no indications of movement throughout the standoff.

When officers finally decided to enter the residence, they were met with a horrifying sight: the mother and her three children, aged 11, 6, and just 10 months, were all deceased.

Investigators later established that the woman had shot her children before turning the gun on herself, Today reported.

Details Surrounding the Incident

Shedding light on the incident, Police Chief Shackelford shared with the Tulsa World that the series of events had begun with a woman - a social worker whose identity remains undisclosed - trapped in the mother’s garage, shooting off fireworks in a desperate call for help.

The social worker had come for a supervised visit with one of the children, whom the armed mother took hostage.

The mother also locked up the social worker and two other children who accompanied her in the garage.

With the assistance of the police, the social worker and the two children were able to escape unharmed.

Shackelford added that he was familiar with the mother due to multiple prior domestic violence and child welfare calls to her residence.  Due to these repeated incidents, the chief knew the mother on a first-name basis.

A Glimpse into a Troubled Past

Billy Jacobson, the father of the 10-month-old who fell victim to this tragedy, expressed his grief over the shocking event on Facebook on the day it unfolded - July 20.

He wrote, "Please keep us in your prayers."

In his online post, he also shared an unsettling detail about the mother's past - she had made an attempt on her own life earlier in January.

Jacobson was the father to the 10-month-old baby who was killed by their own mother.
