Over 30,000 polled back impeachment of Pam Bondi, Massie says
Could Attorney General Pam Bondi be on the chopping block over the Jeffrey Epstein files?
Rep. Thomas Massie, a Republican from Kentucky, sparked a firestorm on social media by polling users on whether Bondi should face impeachment, with over 35,000 respondents supporting her ouster due to concerns about excessive redactions in the Department of Justice’s release of Epstein-related documents, as Newsweek reports.
This controversy traces back to a bipartisan bill co-sponsored by Massie and Rep. Ro Khanna, a Democrat from California, which mandates the DOJ to release all files tied to the late Jeffrey Epstein, who died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges in a New York federal jail.
Massive Social Media Backlash Against Bondi
The bill, which passed Congress, permits redactions only to shield victim identities or protect ongoing probes, but critics argue the DOJ under Bondi has overstepped with heavy-handed edits, possibly flouting the law.
Massie took to X with a blunt question: "Should Attorney General Pam Bondi be impeached?" Over 46,000 users weighed in, with a staggering 66% voting for impeachment over the Epstein files and another 11% citing other grievances.
While only 6% said Bondi is doing a "fine job," 17% urged President Donald Trump to show her the door, though this non-scientific poll hardly represents the full picture of public or congressional sentiment.
Epstein Files Spark Bipartisan Outrage
Khanna, aligning with Massie, didn’t mince words on December 19, declaring, "All options are on the table," while hinting at bringing survivors back to Capitol Hill to demand the DOJ comply with the law.
He doubled down, suggesting severe measures like holding officials in inherent contempt of Congress, criminal referrals for excessive redactions, or even supporting lawsuits to enforce transparency.
That’s a bold stance, but let’s be real—while the frustration is bipartisan, turning online outrage into congressional action is a steep climb, especially with Republicans controlling both the House and Senate.
Bondi’s Approval Ratings Hit Rock Bottom
Adding fuel to the fire, an AtlasIntel poll of 2,315 U.S. adults, conducted between December 15-19 with a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points, pegged Bondi as the least popular Trump administration official.
Only 26% of Americans view her favorably, while a whopping 67% hold a negative opinion—a tough spot for someone tasked with upholding justice in a highly polarized climate.
Yet, no articles of impeachment have been filed, and it remains unclear if there’s enough support in Congress to push such a drastic move, even among fellow conservatives.
Administration Defends Bondi Amid Criticism
White House Spokeswoman Abigail Jackson defended Bondi to Newsweek, claiming the Trump administration is the "most transparent in history" and praising Bondi’s work in delivering on presidential promises. But deflecting to Democrats like Bill Clinton or Hakeem Jeffries for “answers” feels like a sidestep when the Epstein files are the core issue.
For her part, Bondi took to X on Dec. 21, reaffirming the DOJ’s commitment to prosecuting anyone involved in Epstein’s trafficking ring and urging victims to come forward with information.
While that’s a noble pledge, it doesn’t directly address the redaction controversy—and skeptics of overreaching government censorship aren’t likely to be swayed by promises alone.
