Tom Cooper, a well-known realtor from New York City, ended his life by jumping from his Upper East Side apartment while in the process of selling an heiress' home.

At 56 years old, Cooper was a prominent figure in the New York real estate community, working for Douglas Elliman.

His death occurred early on a Tuesday morning at his residence located at 18 East 67th Street, near Madison Avenue, as Daily Mail reported.

Shocked witnesses initially mistook the sound of his fall for a dropped object, only to discover the heartbreaking reality upon seeing Cooper's body. Authorities confirmed the discovery of a suicide note at the scene.

Tragic End Amidst High-Profile Property Sales

Cooper was in the process of selling a $3.7 million unit inside the old NYPD headquarters on Centre Street, owned by billionaire Oracle founder Larry Ellison's daughter, filmmaker Meghan Ellison, when he died.

His last social media post featured him next to a Christmas tree in the lobby of the historic building, where he was also selling two other apartments.

Cooper recently brokered a deal for a six-story townhouse in Greenwich Village, which sold for $18.5 million.

He expressed his delight on Instagram, celebrating the historical significance of the brownstone and his clients' happiness.

Neighbors and acquaintances are equally devastated, with one recalling how Cooper had expressed joy over a recent Christmas Eve celebration.

Details of Cooper's Fatal Fall

Cooper is believed to have jumped from the fourth floor of his building, where his apartment is located.

A window was partially open following the incident, and emergency responders were seen at the scene.

Cooper was swiftly taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Cooper's Legacy in the City's Architectural History

In his professional role, Cooper was involved with several prominent properties. He was the lead agent for Meghan Ellison's apartment in the historic 1909 building that once served as NYPD's headquarters.

This building, now converted into luxury apartments, had been home to celebrities like Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, and Calvin Klein.

Cooper's expertise extended to other significant listings, including a top-floor apartment with a unique rotunda-style dome and possibly combining it with an adjacent unit for $7.2 million.

Additionally, he was handling the sale of a $6.5 million three-bedroom apartment in the same building.

Cooper's own residence, dating back to 1905, is part of a building divided into eight exclusive units. Last year, one of these units was rented out for $9,000 monthly.

A Wider Concern in the City

Cooper's incident marks the most recent case of individuals leaping from upscale Manhattan skyscrapers in recent weeks.

In a separate incident just last week, a 35-year-old Russian mother of two, Alina Page, lost her life after jumping from a high-rise known as The Brittany, located near Mayor Eric Adams' residence at Gracie Mansion.

In October, a 47-year-old man took his own life by jumping from the Gotham Hotel in Midtown.

During the summer, three individuals sadly ended their lives within just two days.
