Report: Bob Barker died after battle with Alzheimer’s

 September 6, 2023

Beloved game show host Bob Barker, best known for his work on CBS’ The Price Is Right, passed away after battling Alzheimer's disease, it has now been revealed.

Barker, who hosted the popular game show from 1972 to 2007, succumbed to complications from Alzheimer's disease, information that emerged after TMZ accessed and reviewed Barker's death certificate, as the Daily Wire reported.

Details on Barker's illness

According to documents seen by the outlet, Barker had been dealing with the progressive ailment for years.

However, details about when he was precisely diagnosed were not mentioned.

In the past, Barker spoke about potential methods of staving off Alzheimer's disease.

In 2013, he collaborated with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), highlighting the benefits of a vegetarian diet.

Barker remarked at the time:

Eating meat means that you have a much greater chance of losing your mind. So, to protect your memory, eat vegetarian, and keep your wits about you into a ripe old age.

He disclosed that he had been a vegetarian for nearly 30 years, emphasizing that abstaining from meat can help prevent Alzheimer’s onset.

A Peaceful departure

Barker passed away peacefully at his residence on August 26, as reported by TMZ. PETA, in memory of their former collaborator, expressed its gratitude and recalled fond memories of the TV icon.

PETA commented:

Bob’s influence on the entertainment industry is indisputable, but what mattered to him most was using his voice and prominent position to protect animals. To us—and to so many animals around the world—Bob will always be a national animal rights treasure.

The organization remembered Barker's efforts in promoting vegetarianism, advocating for animal welfare, and various other initiatives to which he devoted his time.

He had not only campaigned against venues such as SeaWorld -- which he believed exploited animals -- but also took steps to ensure animals' safety in the entertainment sector more broadly.

Additionally, Barker's military background led him to call for a halt to military medical drills involving live animals.

CBS mourns loss

CBS expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Barker, recognizing his indelible mark on the television industry and his dedication to animal rights activism.

The outlet stated:

We lost a beloved member of the CBS family today with the passing of Bob Barker. Daytime television has lost one of its most iconic stars.

Barker's legacy on The Price Is Right spanned over 35 years, during which time he made dreams come true for countless individuals.

His signature sign-off about spaying and neutering pets is iconic, symbolizing his deep-rooted commitment to animal welfare.

The magnitude of Barker's contributions, both on and off the screen, makes his loss even more profound.
