Report: Nancy Pelosi Struggling with Republican Electoral Sweep
In a sweeping political shift, President-elect Donald Trump and the Republican Party have clinched a series of historic wins.
Republican victories in the presidency, Senate, and House have left Democrat Rep. Nancy Pelosi feeling, as she recently declared, "terrible," as Breitbart reports.
Following the recent U.S. elections, Donald Trump emerged victorious, claiming not only the presidency but also a decisive win in all seven key swing states.
This major triumph earned him a substantial 312 electoral votes, alongside a popular vote lead of nearly 7 million over his competitors.
Adding to the Republican successes, the party has successfully reclaimed control of the Senate. Among the new faces in the upper chamber is that of Bernie Moreno of Ohio, bolstering the GOP's presence and influence in Congress.
Republican Grip Strengthens With House Majority
Alongside victories in the presidential and senatorial races, the Republicans have also retained their majority in the House of Representatives.
The party has secured at least 218 seats, affirming a strong legislative base for the incoming administration.
Amid these significant political shifts, CNN’s Manu Raju reported a personal reaction from Pelosi, a leading figure in the Democratic Party and former speaker of the House.
When asked about her condition in light of the election results, Pelosi succinctly replied with a single word: "Terrible."
Pelosi has openly criticized her party's strategy during this election cycle, particularly focusing on the early endorsement of Kamala Harris by President Biden.
She expressed concern that this early decision stifled a potentially robust primary contest, which could have strengthened their campaign.
Pelosi Expresses Regret Over Democratic Primaries
On Nov. 9, during an episode of the New York Times' podcast The Interview, Pelosi discussed her regrets about the way the Democratic Party primaries unfolded. She believed that an open and competitive primary would have benefitted the party more than the early consolidation around Harris.
Pelosi elaborated on her concerns, suggesting that President Biden’s immediate endorsement of Harris made it challenging for other potential candidates to enter the race. This, according to Pelosi, likely weakened the Democratic Party's ticket by limiting its appeal and robustness going into the general election.
Discussions of What Could Have Been
In a reflective tone, Pelosi told the Times, "And as I say, Kamala may have, I think she would have done well in [a primary] and been stronger going forward. But we don’t know that. That didn’t happen. We live with what happened."
Pelosi further remarked in an interview with the Wall Street Journal that Harris took political advantage of the president's endorsement, which propelled her to secure the nomination effectively.
She stated, "[Harris] had the endorsement of the president, and she, politically astutely, took advantage of it and won the nomination."
Meanwhile, President-elect Trump took to social media to express his jubilation over the election results. He posted: “THANK YOU GOD! WON ALL SWING STATES, & THE POPULAR VOTE BY ALMOST 7 MILLION VOTERS. GOT 312 ELECTORAL VOTES,” celebrating his substantial electoral and popular vote victory.
As the dust settles on this momentous election, the reactions and reflections from both sides of the political aisle suggest a period of introspection and potential re-strategizing among the Democrats, while Republicans celebrate an unequivocal victory.
