Riley Keough Speaks on Mother's Premonition Prior to Elvis Presley's Death

 October 7, 2024

Riley Keough candidly shared insights into her late mother, Lisa Marie Presley, and her emotional experiences surrounding Elvis Presley's death during an interview with Oprah Winfrey, airing as a special on CBS.

During the interview, Keough recounted what she said was her mother's intuitive sense about Elvis' failing health the day before his sudden passing, as Fox News reports.

The King of Rock 'n' Roll, as Elvis was famously known, passed away at the age of 42 from a heart attack on Aug. 16, 1977, while Lisa Marie was residing at Graceland.

Lisa Marie's daughter, Keough, completed her mother's poignant memoir From Here to the Great Unknown following her mother's death in January 2023.

The memoir, enriched with personal anecdotes, provides a comprehensive look into Lisa Marie's turbulent journey following the loss of her father, which happened when she was just nine years old.

Intimate Memories with Her Father

During the discussion with Winfrey, Keough described how Lisa Marie had a foreboding sense that something was awry the night before her father died. Winfrey mentioned that Lisa Marie woke up that fateful morning knowing instinctively something was off.

Reflecting on her mother's letters, Keough revealed that Lisa Marie used to write notes expressing her fear of losing her parents. In one such letter, she wrote, hoping fervently that Elvis wouldn't die.

These letters are cherished remnants of her childhood worries and the close bond she shared with Elvis.

Graceland, often perceived as a chaotic place, held a special sanctuary for Lisa Marie and Elvis, particularly in the private upstairs sector. This private sphere allowed Lisa Marie deeply personal moments with the star, away from the public eye and the hustle of the main attraction.

Emotional Turmoil After Elvis' Passing

As the complexities of grief unfolded, Lisa Marie faced significant challenges in coping with Elvis' death. Winfrey noted that Lisa Marie often sat alone, overwhelmed by emotion, while listening to Elvis' soul-stirring music and allowing her grief to surface privately.

Keough observed that her mother's mourning was intensely individual, revealing her struggle to navigate the pain. Lisa Marie’s way of processing this monumental loss underscored her private and often silent sorrow.

Tragically, Lisa Marie herself passed away at the age of 54 due to a small bowel obstruction on Feb. 12, 2023. Her life was marked by the legacy Elvis left behind and was indelibly shaped by the heartbreak of losing him.

Upcoming Oprah Special on the Presleys

Riley Keough’s reflections offer a deeply personal perspective on the Presley family dynamics, shedding light on the often-unspoken challenges they faced.

The intimate recollections shared during the interview enrich the understanding of Lisa Marie's life beyond the public persona.

The interview forms part of a broadcast, An Oprah Special: The Presleys — Elvis, Lisa Marie and Riley, set to air on CBS. The program, scheduled for Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. EST, aims to explore the legacy of the Presley family, focusing on their riveting personal stories.

As the public eagerly anticipates the airing of the special, Riley Keough's revelations provide a window into the emotional complexities experienced by Lisa Marie. The Presley saga continues to captivate audiences with its rich narrative history and deep human experiences.

Through this portrayal, viewers will gain a deeper appreciation of the impact Elvis Presley had not only on music and culture but also on his immediate family.

The special promises to engage audiences with its honest and heartfelt exploration of a family marked by exceptional highs and profound depths.
