Senate Republicans were particularly enthusiastic about Burgum, highlighting his dedication to overturning restrictions on energy development previously enforced by Deb Haaland, the former Interior secretary.

Prominent Support from Senate Republicans

Senate Majority Leader John Thune voiced strong backing for Burgum, pointing to a perceived need to exploit America's natural resources. Thune critiqued the prior administration, stating that the Interior Department, under President Biden, often spearheaded limitations on domestic resource exploitation.
