A congressional staffer was arrested for carrying ammunition, including a high-capacity magazine, into a Capitol Hill office building.

Michael Hopkins, a communications director for Rep. Joe Morelle of New York, was taken into custody on Monday morning by the U.S. Capitol Police, as the Daily Wire reports.

Hopkins, 38, attempted to enter the Cannon House Office Building around 8:45 a.m. on Monday. As part of standard security procedures, he placed his bag through an X-ray screening. However, this ordinary passage through security quickly escalated into an arrest.

Police immediately noticed ammunition on the x-ray screen during the security check. Officers conducted a thorough hand search of Hopkins' bag and discovered four magazines and eleven rounds of ammunition inside.
